For those of you who have played Check your Six:Jet Age and know the rules, what are the rules and scenarios relating to FAC vs. VC, NVA and Pathetic Lao ground forces? Are there any rules and scenarios relating to FAC combat or not? I am interested in running games about FACs vs. ground forces in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Ideas? Should I buy the rules? I am designing my own in any case, but I like to borrow good ideas. |

Dang autocorrect. Not "Pathetic Lao". "Pathet Lao". |

I think Check your Six really shines in Air to Air combat not Air to Mud. |

Peter, do you mean a scenario built around a Forward Air Controller(FAC) controlling air strikes against hostile forces? |

CY6 is primarily concerned with air to air. The air to ground is just another attack die roll, whilst the main game play is in getting into the right position to smoke the enemy aircraft. Sounds like you are looking for something with more emphasis on spotting. I can't think of any air combat set that covers what you want in detail, but most combat sets have something on spotting, so look beyond just air combat rules. |

Thanks all for helping me out. I may get CY6:Jet Age for some air to air Vietnam action. Yes, Viper guy. My Uncle Curly ( Col. Frank Kricker) flew OV -10 Broncos out of Thailand over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos. Then he was part of the Ravens FAC, flying under CIA and Royal Lao forces control out of southern Laos. I would like to run missions where the FAC spots the NVA or Pathet Lao forces on the ground, hits them with smoke and then calls in an air strike. All without getting shot down. So, I am writing my rules up now. Incoming 1:300 scale Broncos, Birddogs, F-4s, F-6s,and A-1s will help my design process. |

Peter, It's actually a good way to learn to "fly" in the game. You could play it solo and take AAA or SAM shots against your aircraft. Also, you have to plan to hit the right bomb delivery hex. You could also role pilot skill for seeing the target the FAC observes. I think it could be fun. You could spice it up with a MIG blowing through. We played an opposed CSAR once that was a blast. |

I will try it, Viper Guy. I have played CY6 for WWII, so the mechanics will be familiar. |

Peters – biggest difference you will notice is that in Jet Age all scores on combat dice count, no ignoring maximum rolls. The other thing to take into account is the effect of speed on manoeuvrability, keeping some speed in reserves is pretty important. There's a pretty active Yahoo group for Check Your 6 which might provide more help in your game objectives. |

*Peterx, Interesting that you brought that up. I have seen CY-6 Jet Age played for both Korea and 'Nam games. The F9f Panther is one of my favorite aircraft of the Korean war as is the Bronco during Vietnam. However as pointed out, CY-6 is basically an air to air combat game. Ive never even heard that 'any' ground attack scenario's were even written for it. IIRC the Panther was one of the most used planes in Korea, but primarily for ground attack and took on enemy aircraft strictly on a 'no choice' basis. I'd love to see some 'strike' mission scenarios for the game or one slose to it. BTW, "Who" are you getting your 1/300 scale aircraft from? Best of luck w your 'home rule' system. |
