My conversions of some Philly Associator's, galloping across the lush Penn landscape. An unfortunate Continental colleague lies, unnoticed.

Perry or Foundry bodies and horses. KMM Heads and various arms.
Painted by John Bryant. Terrain by me. All scratchbuilt.

nicely done,i like the way you incorporate your figures with nice terrain pieces

Don't they have brown coats?

nevinsrip08 Aug 2017 7:46 a.m. PST

John, No. These are the Light Cot 4 th battalion. Green with white and in proper jockey caps.

Right off the Perry plastic card insert.

I didn't know that the Philadelphia Associators had light cavalry. I was under the impression that they were infantry only.

Winston Smith08 Aug 2017 7:38 p.m. PST

The cavalry is the Philadelphia Light Horse.
The Assiciators were a reply to the pacifist Quaker controlled Assembly which would not authorize a militia.

They had infantry, artillery and light cavalry. Almost a Legion, but not quite.

From what I have read the Associators had no Cav. The Philadelphia Light horse were a separate cav.unit that was one of the oldest Military units in America. They wore Brown coats faced white and had their own flag.

"They had infantry, artillery and light cavalry. Almost a Legion, but not quite."

If they had all three arms, how is it that they are not a Legion? Or is it simply that the various constituent units served separately but not under a unified command, which I suppose would allow the difference.

Brechtel19810 Aug 2017 6:21 a.m. PST

The Philadelphia Light Horse was not a part of the Associators. They were, as far as I can find out, an independent unit.

nevinsrip11 Aug 2017 7:23 a.m. PST

Could be. I just generically called them Associators, which may, in fact, be wrong.

I'm all about the way that these look.

You could do whatever pleases you. They are your toys. And if I was playing a game with you, I would have no problem bring them into the picture. Fun and enjoyment is what it's all about!

nevinsrip11 Aug 2017 10:39 a.m. PST

I'm fine being corrected about calling them by the wrong name.
I took it from the Perry plastic AWI box insert card.
It lists under Philly Asociators Battalions 1775-1776
a Light Coy, 4 th Battalion, wearing a green coat, faced white, with a jockey cap for headgear.
I liked the look and made the conversions. I mounted them up, just because I wanted to. I like having unique figures and I'm pleased as punch with the way they turned out.

They are excellent figures-very well done.

Brechtel19812 Aug 2017 2:55 p.m. PST

They had infantry, artillery and light cavalry. Almost a Legion, but not quite.

In August 1775 the Associators had four infantry battalions, one rifle battalion, an artillery battalion, and the City Guards, something of an auxiliary police force. I don't believe they had cavalry.
