SAS SOLDIERS are trying out "Star Wars"-style bulletproof helmets in the war against terror. The hi-tech gear — dubbed the "Boba Fett helmet" after the hit movie's infamous bounty hunter — uses heat-seeking technology to hunt down enemies, reports The Sun. It picks up signals from other people through "friend or foe" vision and is air conditioned to protect against heat and gases…"

If it's got IFF and IR vision, they could have sprung for a HUD gun sight so the troops wouldn't get a stiff neck trying to aim. |

Article claims its already been used by US SF, too. Kinda doubt this stuff actually gets seen in the field a lot TBH. Feels like we're a generation too early for a lot of the HUD stuff and the armor/situational awareness trade off has usually leaned towards the latter for special forces. |
