"Mark N, a British Infantry player at heart, gives the initial take on the upcoming US forces book for V4; Fighting First.

The Fighting First Arrives to join the Allied Offensive

It's here, the V4 Mid-War book that has been the most widely anticipated ever since V4 was announced to be going back to its Mid-War roots. This anticipation built to excitement as a paper copy was displayed at Historicon last month. With players either content or mildly disappointed with the first two offerings from Battlefront; being Desert Rats and Afrika Korps, does Fighting First live up to the expected hype or does it meet tough resistance, just like its namesake did during those first skirmishes with the battle hardened Afrika Korps in 1943?

I will be honest here, this review has fallen on me due to other members currently waylaid by ETC duties or family commitments, and I have to admit that I have never played Americans in my 14-year FoW career. However, I will do my best to satisfy all you eager doughboys (doughgirls too), waiting for this one…"

I was at the meeting at Historicon.

we where shown the cover (one on the link), I said to my self something is wrong????

the look on my face and the gents next to me prompted the owner to query what wrong

I was still puzzling it out as my lizard brain was shouting something is wrong.

The owner stated please if something is wrong.

The Gent next to me said "that is not a WWWII flag"

The owner (he from New Zealand) look sheepish, turn to his companion and stated "will fix that, get that fixed "

so we will see.

I´m more concerned about the M3 getting ganked with the 2+ to hit. YIKES!! I´m also trying to figure out if we've lost the automatic rifle rule. Not cool because I´m an infantry player.

But still, good stuff. Looks like a nicely balanced list that follows history in a reasonable way.

… well apart from the missing M3 75mm GMC that was critical to El Guettar

That is an odd unit to leave out. They have the model for it and they have a TD unit in Fighting First. I wonder why it was left out?

Because it's not made of plastic, like all their new releases.

Another thing they screwed up are the painted Sherman models, which feature the E8543 "sharp nose" differential cover which didn't enter production until July 1943. Thankfully they also include the correct three-piece cover in the box, just like on the painting of the book.

Not everything is plastic , some are just old resin/metal kits put in unit size box sets .
