Quite interesting thread here…

"What would the effects on eastern europe and all of europe as whole if sweden were to win the great northern war? maybe if they could win a quick victory (within 10 years) they could have won?

If they did win, could the swedish empire have lasted, and how big would it get?
Could this effect the rise of Germany, and the russian empire?…"

I think Sweden, like the Dutch were doomed to recede purely due to demographics. You need a large population to sustain military and economic power. The British punched above their weight class by having extensive colonies that were governed with a tiny footprint.
Sustained power would have needed an ability to assimilate their Baltic holdings

Hi Jlundberg, while I agree with your initial comment, I think with Britain it is a bit more complicated and depends on when you are looking at.

Britain punched above its population size because it was rich, much like the Dutch did (by the time of the Empire the population had risen massively in comparison to France's).

However, as you point out, Sweden had a small population and was never rich enough to compensate…
