Here are some pics of the game we ran twice this year. 2 great games, 12 fantastic players, NO bitching, a lot of laughs, what more could a GM ask for?! I was told by at least 75 to 100 folks, it was the best game they had ever seen. Not sure bout that, but I couldn't have been more pleased with our last H-Con! Thanks to all that helped me, played in & commented on our game! link

The album is listed as HISTORICON 2017, Enjoy!

Wow! that's a lot of work and it paid off ..beautifully done.

Ceterman30 Jul 2017 8:10 a.m. PST

Thank ya, Sir! It was a lot but it was a labor of pure love!

Peter, your game was great looking as usual! I liked the additions you made since the last time I saw it.

I did not stop by and say hello because you were busy running the game when I dropped by.

Ceterman30 Jul 2017 8:25 a.m. PST

Thanks Doug! I was wondering if you did drop by. As you know it's a pretty all consuming task GM'ing a game, but at least everyone was having a blast! And yeah, I've added a ton of little details to it since you last saw it! Glad you liked it. It was pretty much our favorite game we've put on in years, just because the players were fine ladies & gents!

Excellent looking game Peter! I know how much work went into your game after doing my 8'x6' Vimy Ridge game. It is a labor of love!!

Ceterman30 Jul 2017 10:32 a.m. PST

Thanks Thomas! Yeah, I loved your work too! I did this about 10 or so years ago, but recently added a bunch of details to take back to H-Con. Mine is a one piece 5x3 board. I had to make a travel box for it too! Thanks for your comment, I know, you know, how much went into it!

That was a nice looking game
Well done

Not sure why it was your last HCon…

Too far, too old, too expensive. The distance adds another night in another motel also. We're going to Southern Front instead. I've been to every H-Con since about 1992. Except Valley Forge & the one before or after that one. So I missed 2 in 25 years. We were stoked when they moved one outta three closer, but alas, too many stubborn New Yorkers & New Jerseyans, I guess. Que Sera, Sera…

I guess I am glad to hear someone else who felt the same way about this being their last historicon for the geography reasons.

whitejamest30 Jul 2017 7:05 p.m. PST

I'm a New Yorker who had a great time making the trip down there, and I admired your set up very much. Sadly by the time I knew the game was being run it was all filled up. Absolutely amazing board, and a real inspiration.

Can I ask what rules you were using? I know it must have been in the program, but I didn't hold on to mine.

Ceterman31 Jul 2017 6:18 a.m. PST

whitejamest, I know not ALL New Yorkers & others boycotted the Con, but a lot did. As for me, there are 4 of us who usually go & it's not just me, we are all older now & it's a group decision. It's just too damn tough to get it all together. But comments like yours are the reason I do it in the first place. Thank you, very much. I do try, even tho HMGS has not given me a single thing since I wrote to them about 10 or so years ago when the award I did receive had the wrong year on it & in the 2 sentences of copy on the award, one was copied & pasted twice, making it look like a 4 year old did it. I wrote them & told them "You people are the Standard Bearers of the Hobby & THIS is what you give to people?" They apparently did not like that one bit & as I said, I had more than one person tell me "Your game is the talk of the Con" not even a "thanks bub" from HMGS. But I'd MUCH rather get comments like yours & the overwhelming approval of all the players & passersby than a misspelled, wrong year piece of paper, ANYDAY! As for the rules, It was Bolt Action, V2 with GAJO's WW1 Modifications along with our own. Here is the link for GAJO: PDF link
If you want my additions email me at: petecam(AT)verizon(DOT)net & I'd be happy to send you the charts I put together. Thanks again for the kind words!

Peter that game looks fantastic, well done!!

Ceterman31 Jul 2017 7:02 a.m. PST

Thanks WarWizard, It was a ton of fun, all around! BTW, the Allies won both games, but under VERY different circumstances! The first game 2 outta 3 tanks were knocked out, so it was the Infantry that did most of the work, in the second game, all 3 tanks survived, but it still came down to H2H, in the trenches! It was a pleasure to run!

Bowman31 Jul 2017 8:19 a.m. PST

… I know not ALL New Yorkers & others boycotted the Con, but a lot did.

With all due respect, deciding not to drive down I-95 to Fredericksburg is not "boycotting" Historicon, any more than your reason of, "too far, too old, too expensive" is a boycott. Everyone has there own reasons on not going to these cons and an actual boycott is pretty rare.

That said, your game looked awesome and your presence will be missed. Oh and thanks for the Gajo update.

Ceterman31 Jul 2017 8:47 a.m. PST

But Bowman, y'all have 2 others that are in your backyard. THERE is a DIFFERENCE. Believe me, I would go if just one of them was a little closer. We all would. We ain't happy about it. It's not like it wasn't the ONLY thing I go to. IT WAS the ONLY thing I went to, all year. It was the only thing I looked forward to all year. I'm pissed, but I'm not going by myself. Like I said, y'all have 3, we get none. But thanks for the props & you are welcome for the GAJO pdf. BTW, if ANYONE wants my QRS that I used, don't hesitate to email me or PM me. petecam(AT)verizon(DOT)net

Rangers Lead the Way31 Jul 2017 10:53 p.m. PST

Ceterman we all get three….saw your game it was a work of art. if one of the cons was north of DC I believe it would work. The traffic around DC and the area of Fredricksburg itself is just brutal.

Bowman01 Aug 2017 6:38 a.m. PST

But Bowman, y'all have 2 others that are in your backyard.

Maybe you have me confused with someone else. None are in my back yard. I drive in from Canada. If Historicon at the FCC kept up the numbers we wouldn't be having any of this discussion and it would have stayed put. And I would still have gone there.

My point was there is a difference between deciding not to go to a convention (for whatever reason) and boycotting it. For example, I would not characterize your reason not to go to the HMGS conventions as a boycott. That's all I'm saying.

And looking at your games, if you choose not to go then we are all the poorer for it.

dapeters01 Aug 2017 8:36 a.m. PST

I agree I went to all the FB cons, if I did not then that would have cut the gaming I did in those years by more then 50%. Folks did not boycott they quit.

Ceterman01 Aug 2017 12:44 p.m. PST

Thanks Guys. Sorry Bowman, that is a drive & a commitment, for sure. I usually look at where folks are from, but I guess I didn't on that one! I understand what you are saying & I agree. Thanks to everyone who commented on my games. I have always tried, as an artist, to do the best I can with what I have. It is the visual that first got me into this, Well, that & a love of History. Sometimes as a GM, maybe that has gotten in the way of the overall game, I don't know. What I do know was that THIS year, we had 12 great players who all seemed like they would much rather play & have fun than win at any cost. And that is what made it so much fun for ALL of us! If anyone wants to play it at Southern Front, next year, come on down! I doubt we will make it this year, but ya never know.

Old Contemptibles02 Aug 2017 3:12 p.m. PST

Fantastic game!

47Ronin02 Aug 2017 5:01 p.m. PST

I saw your game at the convention. Outstanding effort. I know you weren't "hunting for medals," but your game deserved an award.

Given that the theme of Fall In 2017 is "WWI: The Yanks Are Coming", I hope you will re-consider and bring your game to Lancaster in November. (If you need WWI Americans, I can get them for you.) FYI, the deadline to submit games for the PEL has been extended to August 4th.

Hope to see you there.

Now now… we all know the reason Historicon has been failing. Location, location, location…….
