As the topic states how do people whonplay TSATF use camel units. Ive been using them as mounted infantry units but dont allow them to conduct close combat on the camel. Curious what other peoples rules are?

We use them as mounted infantry as well, although we allow them to use rifle fire while mounted. No close combat.

How do you prevent close combat if they are charged?

Bashytubits29 Jul 2017 10:38 p.m. PST

They cannot initiate close combat while mounted, is that better defined for you Winston?

I assume you are discussing British units mounted on camels on not Mahdists on camels?

Prohibit the Guards from charging?
By Jove….
Perhaps a melee penalty would be more appropriate.

I was wrestling with the concept of "inferior mounts", in a Eutaw Springs scenario I borrowed from British Grenadier for a TSATF AWI game.
I simply took away any charge or cavalry bonuses. By their very nature, cavalry had wider bases and infantry were denser. With no bonuses, the "inferior mount" cavalry were badly beaten in combat.

I usually prefer making something a bad idea to try over an outright prohibition.

My Arab camalry are used just like Arab cavalry, although with different modifiers. But maybe I've been doing it wrong, I haven't looked at the rulebook lately.

First off, you gotta have them. Brit and Egyptian use as mounted infantry. My ansar have been used to screen infantry attacks. The Turks just love to shoot them down.

I don't think they ever manage to close. The last time they saw action it was to force the Turks to keep troops on that side of the square.

I only have a dervish unit, and I play them as cavalry without a charge die.
