Moving back to Auldearn, Scotland in the autumn. I am aware of clubs in Elgin and, possibly, Inverness (although an email enquiry there met with no response). Just wondering if there is much activity in this bit of the Highlands.
I am interested in historical Wargaming, particularly horse and musket periods from ECW to ACW, but have collections of Mongol Conquest, Dark Ages, Ancients, WW2 land and naval (1/3000).
Mainly play Napoleonics (Over the Hills) with 10mm or 15/18mm, but also have 6mm armies. Also play Fire anfd Fury, Twilight of the Sunking ( LoA and WSS), Pikeman's Lament, Sword and Spear, Dux Bellorum etc. Been playing since the early '70s.
If there are any other old fossils whose approach to games is "never mind the rules, enjoy the fun" it would be good to meet up when we finally make the move (probably October, depending on builders and solicitors!)

I suggest you move to Brechin or Kirriemuir instead.. you get to play with Charles S Grant and other old fossils like me, playing (for example) Kirriemuir on Sunday – Lion Rampant, GdE, all sorts of TFL rules. Stay in touch.

Thanks Doug for the suggestion, but I am set on moving to the " Scottish Rivieria"- close to family etc. Long drive to Kirriemuir, but I may make it over the mountains for the autumn shows.

Just noticed this as I have not been around here recently, well welcome to the Sahar desert of wargaming. I live a bit further up the road in sunny Invergordon and have really given up trying to find a club, here are my findings. Dingwall there is a club, but never sure if there actually is!, they have had problems getting a place to call home and not too sure if they still exist. Inverness, you would think is bound to have historical wargamers but I haven't found any, the Inverness wargames club actually don't do any wargames but is just an RPG operation, there is another club but is younger guys and a lot of 40K, Malifaux, card games, RPGs etc although they do Bolt Action!! So my findings are totally bah humbug, I will be a grumpy solo wargamer!! Elgin may be better for you as there is a group there, saw pics of a great "Back of Beyond" game they put on at the model railway show in the town. Best of luck with your move back to gods country!!

Hi Donnie,
Just seen your post- cheered me up no end, Not! I am leaving a pretty vibrant scene here in Herefordshire. 6 or 7 of us meet up every Tuesday at a friend's house and once a month I do an 80 mile round trip to the Wyre Forest club in Kidderminster.
I did go to the Elgin club for about a year when I lived near Huntly , but stopped because they meet Sunday nights and I had to get up for work at 5:30a.m on a Monday- don't have that problem anymore, so may give them a go. Saw the Dingwall group on line, looked as if they might be worth checking out. Even Invergordon is not too far for the odd game, at least between May and September!
Sure there must be a few more of us historical gamers hiding around in the Highlands, just need to seek them out.

Aye indeed, I am sure there are a few lurking about and as you say just needing seeking out. I am sure Inverness can't be as bad as it looks, there has to be light at the end of the tunnel!!

There is a gaming store in Inverness which plays a variety of systems – I found it by chance when I was last there. There is also a Games workshop too who may know about the wider local club scene?

Oh, where is the store in Inverness?

steamingdave4717 Aug 2017 9:59 a.m. PST

When I lived near Inverness 14 years or so ago, there was a games shop up some steps not far from Nationide Building Society. May still becthere, but I don't recall that bring historically based, more fantasy/scifi.

I did get in touch with the Dingwall group- they are alive and well, although small in numbers. I will see how they go when I get settled in the area.

Ellerium games is in Lombard street, and the Games Workshop is on Strothers Lane, nothing historical at either shop. I may try and get in touch with the Dingwall club myself as they seem the way to go.
