Hi folks,
Over the past few months I've been involved in play testing a new set of skirmish rules based around gang conflict in 1970s New York called Street Wars NYC. The game is currently on Kickstarter at

and will finish on July 30th.

The Kickstarter covers the necessary elements to play the game, the rules and the first two gangs. These are the Black Cobras, a Kung Fu-practicing African American gang and their arch nemesis the Devils Outcasts, a multi-ethnic skinhead gang.

There is a Facebook page for the game at link and a good review of the rules at link

I've had a ball over the past few months guiding the Devils Outcasts (can you tell none of them graduated from High School?) in their quest to control the mean streets of the Big Apple.

Here is a picture showing the set-up of one of our most recent games:

I've backed this Kickstarter and really want it to do well. The game is one of the most enjoyable sets of rules I've played, easily on a par with Pulp Alley and the figures are great too. If you're interested in warband style skirmish gaming I'm sure you'll like it too.

Here is a picture of one of the Black Cobras and one of the Devils Outcasts to give you an idea of what the figures which are part of the kickstarter look like. The figures were painted by Reuben Torregrossa. He has written a painting guide which is one of the stretch goals of the campaign.

The left hand figure is Smokie, one of the Black Cobra foot-soldiers (ordinary gang members) and the figure on the right is the lieutenant (second in command) of the Devils Outcasts.

The rules cover gang activities such as getting loot (by acquiring loot tokens), tagging buildings, getting better weapons and potentially-performance enhancing substances (flash) as well as simple combat. There are also rules for civilians, who can be mugged for loot.

In the photo below Tremor, leader of the Black Cobras has just successfully mugged a civilian (who looks a lot like Velma from the Scooby Gang:

However, civilians can fight back and in the next game Velma managed to knock out Smokie:

Most of the games I've payed have been straightforward rumbles. This is the climax of one of them:

Both of the gang leaders are in a fight to the death assissted by their MVPs, fighters for hire who can give a gang a bit more punch.

At the end of each turn hurt figures can roll to see if they recover. Civilians move then but then there is also a twist. At the end of the turn the cops can appear. The chances of this happening increases as the violence and criminal activity increases and once they appear they can arrest (or occaisionaly shoot) gangers.

The cops appeared near the end of our rumble, causing major problems for the Outcasts (they appeared in the Outcasts' side of the table – where they appear is decided randomly).

The cops are from Wargames Foundry. One of the best things about the game is that although it comes with great figures the ones you use are not prescriptive. One of the MVPs we use is a Crooked Dice figure and the civilians are the Hasslefree Scooby gang.

Sounds like fun. Can recreate the Warriors movie!

Yes, it's ideal for gaming the Warriors. Another angle is an updated Gangs of New York. If the Kickstarter gets funding one of the future gangs will be the Sons of Liberty, an updated version of the Natives from Gangs of New York with an updated version of Bill the Butcher.
