Quick question: are the current GW washes the same as what were sold as inks? I have finished my pot of Chestnut Ink and now find it was discontinued years ago! To me, the current wahes seem thinner and I wonder if there is an alternarive which gives better coverage. I have seen mention of Windsor & Newton inks as being suitable. |

Don't they now have washes and shaders? |

Alan, I miss my chestnut ink for shading skin and desert camo too. It appears GW makes "shades" and "glazes". How they are similar to inks or what is different between them, I don't know. Maybe a current GW paint purchaser can explain it. |

Alan No, they are different. Old GW inks left a gloss finish, while new washes are matt. |

When my brown ink ran out, I just added some water and the brown stain in the bottom of the jar turned into more brown ink! Still using the same old jar. |

I can say that the COAT'D ARMS inks and paints are top of the pops in my book. Highly recommended. |

Someone with too much time on their hands should do a comparison chart showing the old/OOP GW inks and colors with the equivalent from other manufacturers. GW did their own comparison of old to new, but it didn't account for the changes in painting style that the change also brought in with new types of paint, washes, etc. |
