Which starship models should be in every wargamer's collection? Try to make your suggestions as specific as possible. |

I think the answers are actually to a different question and topic, specifically: 5 Spaceships Every Modeller Should Own Which starship models should be in every modeller's collection? Try to make your suggestions as specific as possible. |
Cacique Caribe | 23 Jul 2017 1:05 p.m. PST |
Is this specific enough? Enterprise (original series) Icarus (POTA) NSEA Protector (Galaxy Quest) Serenity (Firefly) C-57D (Forbiden Planet) Dan |

5 Spaceships Every Modeller Should Own Nah … mine are all wargaming ships, not modeling ships. I think most of the above are as well. The Death Star, accept no substitutes! Well, I have the Death 'Shroom …
… the ultimate weapon of the Gnomelactic Empire! |
BlackWidowPilot | 23 Jul 2017 6:27 p.m. PST |
1) USS Enterprise (any series or film variant will do). 2) a flying saucer such as from Forbidden Planet or Mars Attacks. 3) A rocket ship ala the 1950s B budget sci-fi movies. 4) a Klingon D7 battlecruiser 5) the Millennium Falcon. I think most of the above are as well. And I disagree about the 'most' part. On the other hand, I also think a clue from the 'Spaceship Gaming Message Board' crosspost suggests that grounded models are less in keeping with the theme, as well. I agree that something from X-Wing, given the popularity, should be in a gamer's collection. Alas, just one or two, or even five, is difficult to be playable from what I've seen. Maybe a player can fill the blank. SINGLE blank. Definitely an Enterprise. I'm a non-fan of SFB, but a proper gamer should be ready. Or FC. Or FT varient. Or… BSG, and live with fighter tokens. Brigade Models New Jersey BC; properly nothing particular, but so able to proxy some very iconic beasts. I would have suggested an older GZG NSL dread, but the newer sculpts don't have the brick quality for I want for this list, so BM's ONESS Pomeranian II. I'll look back tomorrow; should have a completely different list then. ;->= Doug |

I'd say: Xwing Millenium Falcon Space 1999 Eagle Flying Saucer Battlestar Galactica There you have the ability to do all sorts of gaming, from space skirmish to roleplay. |

These were always on my list--still need to get a good Bird of Prey to game with!! TOS Enterprise Klingon Bird of Prey Battlestar Galactica Star Destroyer SDF1/Macross |
etotheipi | 24 Jul 2017 3:26 p.m. PST |
And I disagree about the 'most' part. Nah, well over half were ST, SW, and B5 … all of which have space fighter wargames. Add in the generic UFOs and pulp rocket ships that are necessary to land an intrepid adventurer on a strange, hostile world (even including LiS … the ship is the start and end of all adventures!) and you end up with a good, solid most. |
Lion in the Stars | 24 Jul 2017 6:33 p.m. PST |
Big Ships: NCC-1701 (TOS version, no suffix) Klingon D7 K7 Space Station (while Trek, it's sufficiently generic for me, and you can get a near-gaming-model-scale version of it from AMT) Space Battleship Yamato SDF-1 Macross Imperial Star Destroyer Fighters (in pairs, you can mix and match settings): Xwings TIE fighters Colonial Vipers Cylon fighters Bab5 Starfuries Bab5 Raiders or Shadow fighters (though all the other race's fighters aren't bad options) Macross Valkyries Zentradi battlepods Space: Above and Beyond Hammerheads S:AAB Chig fighters And of course the various dropships: Aliens UD4 Cheyenne maybe a Trek Shuttle, but I prefer the original Jeffries design to the flying breadbox-without-wings
a flying saucer of some flavor GW drop pod choose your pulp rocketship |
Ghostrunner | 28 Jul 2017 7:10 a.m. PST |
Not really innovative: A version of the Enterprise – the 'measuring stick' for spaceship naval combat in all its incarnations. A Klingon – the natural opponent. A Romulan – to give some different tactical options A DY-500 – this makes the perfect 'freighter in distress' to fight over, or to create a 'no-win' scenario to make Cadets rage-quit the Academy. A Federation Shuttlecraft – either small or large… preferably both to tie the 'in-space' battle to the planetside action. |

Top 5? USS Enterprise. No Bloody A, B, C, or D. Accept no substitutes. Klingon D-7 Battlecruiser. (Or K'Tinga, if you wish.) Imperial Star Destroyer. Space Battleship Yamato. SDF-1 Macross. If you have budget after that, I'd add the Millennium Falcon, USS Enterprise Movie Refit, Romulan Bird of Prey, Serenity, X-Wing and TIE fighters, Battlestar Galactica (both versions)…. but I could drone on forever, here. |

Gypsy Comet If your OK w/ 3D printed miniatures: check Shapeways. Over all, Im not really impressed with 3D yet. All seem to state "have "grainy feel" too them, because of the WSF (white soft flexible) material. Space Cruiser C-57D Sounded familar, cant beleive I forgot the name of the "ship" from one of my Favorite movies of all time. Forbidden Planet. TOS USS Enterprise USS Reliant / Miranda (yea I know the irony) Klingon D-7 Battlecuriser TOS Battlestar Galactica The new one's cool, but the 70's will always be 'my' BSG. X Wings and Tie fighters Mon Cal cruiser Imperial clas Star Destroyer Nebula Frigate Used by both Emp. and Reb. A simple but versatile design for gaming. |

PT Gamer? I'm going to start calling you JC for your repeated ability to raise the dead… @skippy0001 Sorry I missed your comment back in July. "I'm not crazy about fighters-no criticism, just me." No, not just you, though I can play in a fighter-on-fighter game, they get a bit silly to me when they dominate big ship dust ups. We'll just to have to be the list's curmudgeons… Doug |

TheBeast PT Gamer? I'm going to start calling you JC for your repeated ability to raise the dead… Really? I thought this was to simply ask: Whats your favorite SciFi ships/models, not to take religious 'pot shots'. |
Akalabeth | 16 Dec 2017 7:58 a.m. PST |
He's just saying that you're responding to old threads. If a person replies to a thread that hasn't been active in months it is commonly called necroing the thread, as in, necromancy or raising dead. |
Legion 4 | 16 Dec 2017 8:05 a.m. PST |
Amen ! But yes, he's referring to "Necroposting" as I understood the term, which is fine with me. AFAIK there was no religious "pot shots" meant or implied … IMO there is nothing wrong with mentioning JC here … E.g. TMP link |
miniMo | 16 Dec 2017 12:26 p.m. PST |
Thread's not dead til the Poll runs! And even then it picks up a brief resurgence of natural life 'cause the Poll itself will link back here. |
TheBeast | 17 Dec 2017 7:39 p.m. PST |
I was actually being grateful, having reminded me to reply to a missed comment. No offense intended. @miniMo PT Gamer has revived a number of threads of late, most not poll related. Has been interesting, of course, though in a number cases, some of original participants have gone silent over time. And, NO one flagellates a moribund equine like moi. ;->= Doug |
