"Following the loss of its territory, Isis will morph into an insurgency that will resemble "al-Qaeda on steroids", the most senior anti-terrorism official in Iraqi Kurdistan has said.

While the group was defeated in Mosul earlier this month, effectively spelling the end of the Iraqi half of its so-called caliphate, the battle against the militants could take another three or four years in total, Lahur Talabany said in an interview with Reuters.

The fight for the group's last urban stronghold of Raqqa over the border in Syria is underway, but is also expected to be long and bloody…"

Just like the members of some Al-Qaeda subsidiaries (like Al-Nusra) were provided jobs by the US and others in Syria, I think that some ISIS fighters will become the local "freedom fighters" that powers like Turkey might find useful after their official troop withdrawal from most of Syria*.

It's only natural, seeing as how ISIS and Turkey had already developed a business relationship from the sale of all that Syrian oil.

* I still think Turkey will hold on to a few sections or enclaves in Syria, presumably to help "protect" ethnic Turks tribes in Syria.

Algeria managed to reduce the FIS insergency to almost nothing. Granted the methods they used would make an SS Sonderkommando puke. But it worked.
