We wanted to thank the HAWKS (Harford Area Weekly Kreigspielers) for running so many fantastic games for kids at Historicon 2017: Last Stand at Fredericksburg. My seven year-old son was fortunate to get into both Saturday's generous Armies for Kids Giveaway Franco-Prussian War game and the Navies for Kids pirate ship game giveaway. Kudos to Duncan Adams and Buck Surdu for having the energy, focus, and patience to run these games and keep the kids engaged at the gaming table. Members of the club worked with donated materials to paint two armies for each kid, complete with terrain and buildings (and donated Battlefield Terrain Concepts roads), plus pirate ships and table covers…and all the rulers, dice, and rules needed to play with their friends at home. The HAWKS room overall hosted many great games for both kids and adults. Everyone we met there was welcoming and made us feel right at home, especially Bill Acheson and Sam Fuson. The HAWKS offer a model example for running games that encourage kids and newcomers to immerse themselves in the miniature wargaming hobby. We're looking forward to seeing them at their own convention, Barrage, in January.

(and donated Battlefield Terrain Concepts roads)

Yes, BTC donated the roads

and the trees

and the stone walls

and hills and the islands in the naval game

This was an unsolicited donation.

And, BTW Miniature Building Authority donated some 15mm European buildings.

Many thanks to both for their generosity.

Duncan

Thanks for the clarification, Duncan. (I'm bookmarking their websites right now.) I'm always impressed with the armies and terrain the kids take home…I didn't get a chance to look at much of it because the terrain came out of the box to use with his Star Wars and other figures. Not quite wargaming use, but playful use nonetheless. Thanks again to the HAWKS and all your generous supporters.
