I'm about to give the GNW the ole 1:1 2mm treatment here soon. I have two units already done as test cases:

The Russians:

The Swedes:

The Swedish unit had 300 figures in it, the Russian unit has 450. Would this be accurate?
Cavalry for the period should be pretty easy, as well as arty. I'm tempted to do a few battles for the GNW at 1:1, as my 4-rank showcase army. I'll also be adding some units with pike in the middle, but stealing them from my master pike model:

… which will be similar to the ECW modelsI want to put out, with wings of muskets on either side of a pike block. Although, for that matter, did the Swedes have a central block of pike at all, or did the pike spread out as a rear rank? I've only ever seen them modeled as a central block, but I've seen diagrams with the pike deployed behind the muskets. Anyway, any advise is appreciated.

Also, what kinds of troops or formations would you want to see in a 2mm GNW line? I'm always open for requests!

A Swedish regiment consisted of 2 battalions of 600 each.
But 500 would probably be more realistic.

Before 1710 all Swedish battalions had 1:3 pike placed in the center of the battalion. So if you do a 600 figure battalion than about 200 would be pike.
The russsians did and did not use pikes. And sources are a lot less clear. Some times they did use the pikes in the center. At other times they spread the pikes out along the whole front. It's also doubtfull if they had a full 1:3 pikes.

Thanks Gunfreak-
Do you know how deep the pike block would have been?

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP14 Jul 2017 2:49 p.m. PST

I think it was the same depth as the musketeers. 4 deep. The pike wasn't to defend against cavalry simply to make the swedish more offencive.

Oh and if I remember correctly russian regiments where mostly 3 battalions of 500 men each (i think.) But there are 2 battalion and 4 battalion regiments too.

Good info- the model should be pretty easy then.
Do you have any info on cavalry? Are we looking at 3 rank cavalry formations?

As a Norwegian, Gunfreak would of course consider all Swedes offensive… – I'll get my coat.
