Looking at putting together a seriously portable set based on 5mm ACW on half-inch bases. (I know! I know!) With OTR, this works out to 100 yards to the inch and I'll need about a 2' square board. At that scale and size, it's very tempting to just paint the terrain on the mat, having the option of adding 3D hills, houses and woods at a slight sacrifice in portability. But I'd need a terrain cloth--or paper?--I can paint on and push very small bases over, and which will lie flat after being folded or rolled up. Suggestions? Also, at that scale and size, is it feasible just to print out a color map of a battlefield or a portion thereof? And how would I go about it? Still at the "thinking through" stage, at which it is quick and cheap to change direction. |

You could go to a sign store and have them print a vinyl map, aerial photo, google earth, etc. Up front cost, but durable, portable, and wrinkle resistent. |
