Here's a link to "Sudan Notes and Records," Vol. 13, No. 1, which contains the 1930 reprint of then Major F.R. Wingate's 1892 article, "The Siege and Fall of Khartum." Major Wingate was Director of the Egyptian Army's Intelligence Branch in 1892 and a major player in the 1896-1898 campaigns in the Sudan. He succeeded General Lord Kitchener as Sirdar of the Egyptian Army in December 1899.
