Today is the 239th anniversary of the battle of Monmouth, one of the largest and bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary War. Since there is no mention of it on military sites, I decided to post it here. I'm reading Fatal Sunday today and where I currently I am it is very cool, unlike the terrible heat at Monmouth. The battlefield is the best of the Revolutionary War sites to visit, and it's a great battle to game. |

Great book. The park is huge. Just there two weekends ago for the annual event. The park came very close to closing several years ago. |

Ha It is closed now due to budget fight between the NJ Governor and the head to the NJ Assembly. Hopefully a resolution will allow the park (and other NJ parks) to open in the near future. You probably can park on the road and walk the fields, but the visitor center and access road are closed. Last weekend went to a reenactment of the Battle of Short Hills. Of course it was touted as a strategic American victory (yeah right) but was fun anyway. Dan |

Perhaps you and your son need to fall into the ranks. :-) |

My son talks about it. He is 14 so cannot carry a gun, but he plays trumpet and liked the idea of being a Hessian Jaeger with a horn. He has the physicque that fits the role. |
