We heard about it on the 24th in the USA. I posted this yesterday, but now cannot find it. Sorry.

I see MASH re-runs today on American Move Classics (AMC) TV Channel, and last evening Oliver North covered the War on Fox Business Channel. Some remember.

Pork Chop Hill is another classic

My cousin served in an artillery unit there in 52-53. He wouldn't talk about it back then but when he got older he told me of some of his experiences. I remember him specifically mentioning how heavy the Chinese artillery fire was and that the communists were deeply dug into tunnels and bunkers.

An excellent book on this latter period of trench warfare in Korea is The Last Parallel by Martin Russ. One of the best first hand combat accounts I've ever read.

Another good movie is "The Bridges at Toko-Ri". Korea is good for some air war games using Check Your 6. Either F6F Panthers or F-86 Sabers vs Mig 15's. Or F-51 Mustangs and F4U Corsairs vs YAK 9's

I had no idea this started on my birthday. It's like every year I learn another thing that happened on this day.

Thank you.

All this talk should be happening on the Korean War forum, where one doesn't suffer from inconsistent editing:

Yes, many forget that the Korean War is not over per se. It's a "truce". And it's been that way since '53.

I was assigned to a forward deployed Mech Bn in the 2ID, '84-'85 for 22 months. At Cp Howze along MSR 1. With 2 tours on the DMZ. It does not take long in country to realize the War is not over.

And when watching the daily news feeds. It only makes that much more clearer.

My paternal grandfather served there from 1951-1952 with the Air Force. I had an e-mail exchange with him this week about the war and he brought up the fact that most veterans from the war are starting to pass on. He can only think of a small handful of men from the unit he was with who are still around.

@MiniPatton…

I see that at my local VA clinic. WWII vets are virtually non-existent now, and the Korean War vets are also few and far between. Most of the vets I see now at the clinic are Vietnam War vets, at even at my age (47) they look at me as a kid. The Greatest Generation will soon be but a memory…

Yes, very rarely do I see any WWII Vets at the VA too, Lou. And yes, even Korea Vets are getting fewer as well.

My Father an Inf SGT in France with the 90ID, passed in '80. He was young … much too young.
