Has anyone tried an M5 scenario based on this original series episode?

The advantage of the M5 is supposedly that it acts more rapidly, therefore it is a match for three or four ships of apparently the same size/class.

There are rules for super intelligent computers in Star Fleet Battles (their inclusion should surprise no one). I played with them once back in the 90s when I was into SFB.

If I remember, the M5 would allocate energy after everyone else announced their speed, always moved last during an impulse and had a bunch of positive DRMs.

Also every turn you rolled to see if something bad happened to the computer (33% chance?). If something did you rolled to see what happened ranging from "weapons offline" to "computer goes crazy and starts attacking friendlies"

Thought you could shut them down simply by asking them to calculate pi to its last digit?

Yeah, their logic circuits weren't totally up to snuff.

Actually it's:

KIRK: He lied. Everything Harry tells you is a lie. Remember that. Everything Harry tells you is a lie.

MUDD: Listen to this carefully, Norman. I am lying.

"The Ultimate Computer"
Great episode, even better IMO, when it was redone w/the digial re-released version.

Now IIRC, the episode R R & SC are refering to is: "I Mudd".

The thing is not to fight as it expects you to fight.

Plus it will always be thinking of surviving while I am out to win at any cost.

Think like when Star Fleet met the Jem'hadar.
