In building my halfling army, I wanted to have a unit of ogre allies that had an Empire-type feel to them. I looked at Thebattleforge but their ogres felt a bit too goofy for my tastes, plus they were rather pricey for detail that was just average.
I finally found what I wanted in the vintage Rackham ranges for the old game Confrontation. The website Cadwallon.com now carries pretty much the entire Rackham range.
I had quite forgotten just how awesome these sculpts are. Rackham made some amazing miniatures!
The first one is perfectly dressed and equipped for what I needed. They gave him a classic Renaissance-type outfit which works very well for ogres that might be allied to The Empire or to supporting a halfling army. The Duke of Vallor:
The next two are called the Guards of Khaurik. I thought that these two were a bit rougher looking but still had enough of an Empire-feel to them to work pretty well:
Guard of Khaurik 1
Guard of Khaurik 2
Here are the same three miniatures as I assembled them:

The Duke comes in resin, and the two guards come in metal. I can't say enough about the quality of the detail in these miniatures. The resin is as tight, clean, crisp and also as sturdy as one could possibly hope for. The Duke had ZERO flash on him. Five easy, precisely fitting components. To me, this is what Citadel Finecast SHOULD have been like! The resin reminded me of the resin that you find in Fenryll's models. It's almost more like hard plastic than resin, very strong and featherlight.
The two Guards of Khaurik were easy assemblies. Almost no flash, large easy components to assemble. There was only one pin that I had to use, and it was for Guard 1. He was particularly heavy and leaned slightly backward on the base so it was necessary to drill a hole through his right foot and insert a pin. I drilled a hole through the base and drove the pin through it. That anchored him pretty securely to the base combined with super-gluing both feet to the base as well.
These are all priced out from 11-15 Euros each. That works out to about $14 USD-18 per ogre. Might seem pricey, but paying about $50 USD for a unit of three ogres of this quality of detail I think is well worth it.
