With the release of 8th edition, I have been thinking about the Primarchs. There is a pretty big chance that the alive Primarchs will return, as there are a lot, and many are pretty much waiting for the time to return.
LOYALISTS WHO WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY RETURN:
Lion el'Jonson: Waiting for the Emperor to awaken him
Leman Russ: Disappeared into the Eye of Terror, probably killing Chaos
LOYALISTS WHO MIGHT RETURN:
Jaghatai Khan: Chasing some Dark Eldar
Vulkan: No one knows
Corax: Going to the Eye of Terror
TRAITORS WHO WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY RETURN:
Mortarion: Just chilling, but since his legion is now an army again, he'll most likely return.
Fulgrim: Also chilling, but he's pretty popular, so he'll probably return. This ones a bit iffy
TRAITORS WHO MIGHT RETURN:
Perturabo: Doing nothing
Angron: Reforming from within the Warp

I'm hoping that Fulgrim will overpower the demon that is possessing him, and then return to the Loyalist camp!

Narwhal King17 Jun 2017 6:11 p.m. PST

He overpowered the Daemon….and became a Daemon Prince on Slaanesh.

Pictors Studio17 Jun 2017 6:39 p.m. PST

They have been showing bits of Mortarion all over the place, plus they have a picture of him in the new rulebook, plus I think they confirmed he is coming out so that is a "furshure."

Leman Russ is almost a guarantee. Hopefully he isn't much different from the Forge World model.

All of the traitor primarch's except Horus and Night Haunter have a good chance of returning as they were all turned into daemon princes.

I could see either Forge World or GW making Angron and Fulgrim Daemon prince models as both are transformed before book 30 of the Heresy series.

Angron was destroyed during the First War for Armageddon, but he said he would re-materialize after a while because he became a Daemon Prince

Pictors Studio17 Jun 2017 10:24 p.m. PST

The first War for Armageddon was 444.M41. Given that the third war for Armageddon happened in 998.M41 and Angron was only banished to the warp for 100 years and a day he should be able to be around in the "present."

My main curiosity is how are the new 8th Ed rules? Is it worth getting back in?

Pictors Studio19 Jun 2017 5:14 p.m. PST

It is a lot simpler with a lot less Bleeped text than the last edition. I played my first game today, it was fast and fun.

They have Power now in addition to points so doing a pick up game is super easy as a squad is 6 power or whatever not 10 marines x 15 pts each plus a plasma gun at 6pts and a power sword at 15 pts and this guy has a quill with ink so that is 2 pts and digitial lasers and on and on.

There are some wonky rules, like the terrain rules aren't brilliant but they are simple. The vehicle rules need a few house rules to make them work but I've never met a ruleset that I've played as is anyway.

Narwhal King19 Jun 2017 6:48 p.m. PST

I don't really like how you have to go from page to page just to mark the points of one squad.

Pictors Studio19 Jun 2017 10:20 p.m. PST

Interestingly you don't have to do that.

LOL

I was eyeing the box set at my local game store and it does have some wonderful figures. The Nurgel Lord is in particular beautiful in its own awful decayed way. The Space Marines are also some of the best of what has always been GW's strongest miniature design.

Narwhal King20 Jun 2017 7:17 a.m. PST

Pictors I meant that the point values are at the end of the book, but the miniatures stats and what they have is toward the beginning, and if you use a specific Space Marine army you have to flip through even more pages for points values. Maybe it's just a Space Marine thing.

The vehicle rules need a few house rules to make them work but I've never met a ruleset that I've played as is anyway.

What are your particular thoughts on the matter, Pictors?

The Nurgle Lord is in particular beautiful in its own awful decayed way.

It is. I am very impressed at how the Death Guard minis piece together on multiple planes, like a puzzle. It does an astounding job of hiding mold lines. The instructions would be hard to live without- you definitely couldn't call them flat and two-dimensional!

This thread has been hijacked.

Pictors Studio20 Jun 2017 7:47 a.m. PST

"you have to flip through even more pages for points values."

Just stop using points. The Power level is right on the same page and probably more accurate anyway such as these things can ever be.

On the subject of vehicles:

I think the vehicle rules could be fixed by making vehicles block LOS, including themselves.

I also think you could just add 1 to the S of the weapon for shooting at some vehicles to the side and add 2 when shooting at the rear. The trouble with that is some vehicles don't really have different values, like really light ones or really heavy ones (land speeder, land raider) so you might have to have special rules then for that which starts to defeat the purpose of the simplicity of the game.

The one thing I don't like about the new indices is that all the weapon options are not on the same page as the troops themselves all the time.

In the Genestealer lists the Neophytes do not have their heavy weapon choices on the sheet, which means you have to look back to the weapons list to see.

They aren't even on the page by themselves so it isn't like they ran out of space fitting them on a page.

Most of them seem to have this info included but it isn't universal.

Narwhal King20 Jun 2017 6:47 p.m. PST

Update: I was looking through the Index: Imperium 1, and noticed Robute had a tag called Primarch. Now this isn't proof, but why would they have a tag for only two people (Robute and Magnus). Just some speculation.

Pictors Studio20 Jun 2017 6:58 p.m. PST

It will be three people soon when Mortarion comes out in July. But they have some key words for things that are unique simply because there are sometimes special rules that affect only them.

Narwhal King20 Jun 2017 7:05 p.m. PST

I know, but I curently haven't seen anything using the Primarch tag with abilities, so I'm just thinking that they might have more than just those 3.

Eclipsing Binaries21 Jun 2017 2:15 a.m. PST

I heard that there will "maybe" be a Leman Russ this year or early next year. It was one of those "I don't want to say anything, but…" comments.
