As a rough starting point: Captain General – commanding general Lieutenant General – commanding the horse (Sergeant) Major General – commanding the foot |

Also could have Lord General – commanding a particular army Colonel General – usually in charge of local forces in a county or a few counties Lieutenant General of Artillery But command structures, like the armies, varied a lot |
