So my son and I are painting warlord games waterloo set. Here's his first french company. He's 9 and painted, shaded and highlighted the figures entirely by himself. I just help with the basing.

So I take it he's now chained to a table in the basement with a pile of figures to get done?

If not, you are missing a golden opportunity.

jgibbons16 Jun 2017 5:44 p.m. PST

Bravo! Great work at any age!

Wow

HappyHiker17 Jun 2017 3:18 a.m. PST

Thanks, he's very pleased by all the comments.

He liked the idea of commissions but he's got to finish all those waterloo figures first (it's a sneaky way of me getting half the army painted for free).

tbh, his shading is better than mine

Cavalry are next but I've promised to do the horses.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP17 Jun 2017 6:06 a.m. PST

"I'll do the horses" he says.

Pick up a tin of spray paint and do half in black and half in dark brown. Dry brush on any details of harness. Then paint a white blaze on the nose and a few socks at random.

Slightly more work for bays I admit….like another ten minutes doing a black mane, tail and eyes.

You have got this well worked out. I hope he is on a good pocket money rate ("allowance" to our colonial cousins over the water). UK has something called the minimum wage…even for 9 year olds.

Your lad has earned it. Seriously tho'..great posting. My two got me back into this years ago with Perry LOTR figures. I knew nothing of acrylics, dry brushing, washes and inks, lining…

Greylegion17 Jun 2017 8:20 a.m. PST

At 9yrs old, that's freakin fabulous.

Black Cavalier17 Jun 2017 12:21 p.m. PST

I'm 52 and have been painting for 30 years and I still can't paint as well as he does.

Have him start a commission business to help pay for college

Woolshed Wargamer17 Jun 2017 12:50 p.m. PST

One of the benefits of this hobby for children is that it teaches delayed gratification. You have to put some time and effort into it to get the results. The lure of PC games is the instant nature of the gratification. Your boy showed patience and a steady hand. Well done.

pbishop1217 Jun 2017 5:21 p.m. PST

I'm 58 years older than your son… mine could never measure up.

14Bore17 Jun 2017 5:35 p.m. PST

Similar to Brian's comment, I as a young lad had no patients and couldn't wait for anything, painting a few thousand figures I think changed that for me.

von Winterfeldt18 Jun 2017 1:46 a.m. PST

great talent, very well done

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP19 Jun 2017 10:43 a.m. PST

He is obviously a true natural!
Especially the faces. Faces are very hard to do right. And he did them much better than me.

HappyHiker22 Jul 2017 3:18 a.m. PST

Sam wanted me to load his latest mini, this was a pressie for his grandma whose reading the Simon Scarrow books (so a bit like a commission ;-))

It's also my first attempt at double lighting a mini, quite a lot of shadow, need a third light I guess

Henry Martini22 Jul 2017 4:48 p.m. PST

What cute little legs you have, mon General.
