Pretty quaint POV. And do you think its any different when the child in question is male? If you do, then you don't know parents….
Nope never been a parent. So I'm winging it. But at my "advanced" age. I may have some ideas, concepts, etc. that seem "quaint" to some … I do know my Father, a WWII INF SGT Vet. Did Not want me to join the Army, let alone a unit like the 101. But young men sometimes have to "test" & "prove" themselves, etc. Learn on their own, sometimes the hard way, etc. old fart I'm not sure if most females feel the same ?

However, almost all females I have contact with don't think women in combat or in combat positions really does not appeal/work for them. Let alone even be in the military.

But as I said, I've served in a CBT SPT Bn as BdeMO. I do know there were many females in those units. Including my driver. They all seemed to do their jobs well.

That being said, of the "draft" age youth I see, e.g. at the YMCA, etc. I'm not really too "impressed". But I'm sure many older generations in the past since Plato, etc. may have said similar.
old fart [And No I didn't know Plato !]

So ….. it pays at the end of the day to be sure that the precious assets are not being misused.
I hope all those in power see things that way. However, in many cases it's not their "assets" being use or misused/expended.

The problem with any kind of study of these political topics is the political appointees will provide the outline and then pick the researchers. Thus assuring the outcome.
That it seems assuredly the "standard" … in many, many "studies" in many cases. Or so I'd think or it seems …

FWIW,
I spent a few hours at Camp Pendleton last week shooting pool and drinking beer with some signal support Marines that deploy directly with ground units in combat. One of the female members of the unit showed up.

She is a very well respected member of the unit and just came back from some intensive cyber warfare training with MARSOC. The conversation did get around to females integrating with males in combat operations (I did not bring it up). She acknowledged that while technically as proficient as anyone else in the unit she would not be able to keep up with her male counterparts in ground combat operations. She said the physical requirements are much different/easier for females and that while she scores very high on the female physical requirements test she would flunk the males or score at the bottom. She said females are given "special" treatment by the senior NCO's and officers and many times take advantage of it as seniors are less apt to disciplining them because of accusations of sexism. She also went on to say (and I am quoting her) that 90% of the females in the Marines joined for the benefits and to find a husband. Now I'm sure about 90% of the males joined for the benefits too and most likely a few are looking for a husband (transgender integration training will start soon and I have a copy of the training documents). None of the discussion was derogatory, just matter of fact.

This was true back in the 80s. Blue and Pink Fitness standards. I guess it hasn't changed.
