How important are uniform base sizes with these rules? I want to move from SAGA to Dux Bellorum for bigger battles. My SAGA forces, individually based, are in movement trays. These are laser cut, to fit round bases & took time and money to create. What I want to do is to make my SAGA forces correspond to DB. Thus SAGA levies become Shieldwall, Hearth Guard are Warriors & SAGA Warriors are either Shieldwall or Warriors. The problem is though the SAGA movement trays are from 10cms to 16 cms depending on the troop types. I can't see the problem with such small discrepancies but I haven't had a game yet. Is there a problem? |

Thank you. Traffic on this site seems to be very low. |

I suppose what you could do is just set movement/distance rates at the median 12cm as distance is measured in base widths. As long as your opponent has similarly based units it should be no problem. |

The crucial point is that all unit frontages should be of equal length. For 28mm 10cm works very well: eight warriors irregularly arranged, ten shieldwall… ers arranged in two neat ranks. Maybe you can cut the 16cm bases down to 10cm, and retain some of the 6cm off-cuts while cutting others into smaller sizes, which together could be combined to make 10cm bases. |

Dux Bellorum and Brittanium are two very different rulesets set in the same time frame. I believe the author wants info on Bellorum. As Martini states, frontages should be of equal width. Measurement is in base widths. I think the ultimate bugbear would be if your bases get locked into combat and there are issues with two smaller units contacting a larger base unit. |

10cm to 16cm is hardly a small discrepancy ! In DB units line up so the base frontages have to be equal. |

In DB units line up so the base frontages have to be equal. Maybe not. As DB is one of these "tool kit" set of rules, I feel I can easily change things. I actually think the author has left holes to encourage you to change the rules.
My warbands , Saxon & Late Roman, are based the same. I have no intention of playing in tournaments or clubs. And, a trial game seemed to work out OK with the small base discrepancies I've outlined in the OP. But thank you for your comments. |

Maybe not. True. If you and your opponent are facing off against each other with units of different base widths then I am sure a gentlemen's agreement could be reached regarding aligning units. |
