There is the gang so far.

And if 8th proves to suck, well I just bought the 7th edition Codex so we can still use them easily for games using 3rd edition.

The new supermarines shouldn't be too hard to back convert to 3rd either.

Very nice.

GodThor07 Jun 2017 11:26 a.m. PST

That's a great looking cult you have. Nice work.

Pictors Studio07 Jun 2017 12:36 p.m. PST

Thanks. I like them. I'm heading out now to buy another box of Neophytes. After that I just need one more box of Acolytes and to dig my Space Hulk Genestealers out and that should be it for the army. I don't think I'll need anything else.

Eclipsing Binaries07 Jun 2017 1:03 p.m. PST

You really need one of these to finish off your cult…

Great looking figs! I'm really excited about the GSC, no matter the rules.

(I'm trying to figure out the references in the captions…)

Tangentially, I'm thinking of expanding Kill Team Cassius to a full Deathwatch force – the Deathwatch Kill Team boxes have so many good options. A re-telling of The March To The Sea comes to mind, with a Deathwatch force caught on the other side of the Great Rift when everything goes to hell…

Pictors Studio07 Jun 2017 1:22 p.m. PST

That sounds awesome! I'm totally stealing that.

I will be getting a number of those gene cult limos. They are cool as hell.

Pictors Studio07 Jun 2017 1:23 p.m. PST

A clue to the references is in the title of the post on the Imgur site. Right down to the names of the characters.

Beautiful work on the GSC Scott. I was sorely tempted to pick those up. The trucks are pretty cool but the side turret bugs me for some reason.

nvdoyle07 Jun 2017 7:29 p.m. PST

Ah, I think I begin to understand now. Their worship of the Four-Armed Emperor has spilled out of their Sonic Temple, but thankfully the true Soldier Blue has awoken from his Soul Asylum…

Pictors Studio07 Jun 2017 8:08 p.m. PST

Yes, they were Born Into This life. Their leader is a true Wild Hearted Son of the Hivemind.

And today they are off to the Warhammer store in Henrico, VA to see if they can get any Shadow War games in or, if I'm lucky, the guy will show me how to play 8th with them.

"And if 8th proves to suck"

My FLGS has preview copies of 8th for our use, and we've been having a blast with it. Several of us will be playing tonight.

I haven't tried the GSC yet. It doesn't seem that you can do such crazy shenanigans in 8th as you could in 7th… but I haven't looked that closely at them yet.

Pictors Studio09 Jun 2017 9:52 a.m. PST

I was just at the GW store in Henrico va and the nice lady running the store was kind enough to give me a demo game. It seems pretty much like AoS so I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

Some shenanigans will be necessary for the cult to survive against marines I think.

Oh Pictors,you canny L'il Devil you ;-)

wehrmacht12 Jun 2017 8:43 a.m. PST

Great looking army. What's that on the horizon? Smoke!! :-)

Centurio Prime12 Jun 2017 10:20 a.m. PST

Pictors… I may have missed it, but I don't think you can remove units from the table and put them into cult ambush again. That was the shenanigans I was talking about…

Pictors Studio12 Jun 2017 11:10 a.m. PST

We will probably allow them to do that in 8th edition anyway if they aren't allowed to do it. It seems like one of the most fun things about the army.

Here are the last of the Cultists I have at this time.

picture

10 of these guys were already done but then I bought another boxed set of them. You can field them in units of 5 but they seem a little flimsy with a T3, 1 wound and not much in the way of armour. Your average space marine squad would make short work of them in a turn.

I have them set up now as two squads of 8, but they aren't street legal like that as they have too many heavy mining tools. What I might do is run them as one squad of 15 with three of the weapons. That will make them both more survivable and more heavy hitting.

At this point that would give me two units of Neophyte hybrids and one unit of Acolyte hybrids for three troop choices.

The other option would be a squad of 10 and a squad of 5 with maybe the demo charges in the squad of 5.

I will probably get another box eventually so I can field all of the models I have.

One of the guys I have I made into an Iconward because I didn't feel like buying one and 17 seemed like a weird number of Acolytes.

Codsticker18 Jun 2017 10:08 a.m. PST

I am contemplating picking up the Deathwatch Killteam box as I already have quite a few Genestealers (another long-stalled project…). If I may ask, how many Genestealers can you take in a cult force?

Pictors Studio18 Jun 2017 10:52 a.m. PST

I don't have the new index but I'd imagine the army isn't hat different.

There really isn't much of an upper limit. They count as elites in the force, you can take 20 in a unit. If you are taking a patrol detachment under the new rules you could have 40.

The bigger detachments allow more, of course, but then you need more troops.

If you took a battalion detachment you would have to have 2-3 HQ choices and at least 3 troop choices.

The DW:O boxed set contains enough stuff for 3 troop choices as you get two units of Acolytes and 1 unit of Neophytes. Plus it has 3 HQ choices.

It then allows you to take up to 6 Elite choices. The boxed set contains 1 unit of Aberrents which is one elite choice, if you choose to field it, leaving you with up to 100 Genestealers.

If you take a Vanguard detachment it requires 3-6 elite choices and 1-2 HQ choices so there you could field a force of a Broodlord and 120 Genestealers if you so chose.

I guess the answer is that it depends, but it could be a Bleeped text ton of them.

Excellent, thank you. thumbs up
