Were you a theatre nerd, a science/math nerd, a drama dweeb, a D and D dork, a grit, a stoner, a popular, a prep, a punk, a hippie, a raver, a goth, a metal head, a jock, a square, or something else? I personally was a theatre nerd, a D and D dweeb, a model UN nerd, and a student government dork. So, I covered all my dweeb, dork and nerd bases.

Journalism club (reporter, humor columnist, editorial cartoonist, photographer)
Computer club (programming TRS 80 Model II !)
Science club
Hung out with band geeks in the morning, or with the other journalism students.
D&D, wargaming, video arcade with friends on weekends and after school.
Semi- official BSA Explorers troop (mostly the same friends, with girls added)
Christian youth groups, though no single official club.

I was also in the unique position of attending a creative writing class at the crosstown rival high school, where I also had close friends. Our D&D gaming brought those crosstown friends together.

ROTC, a part-time job and lusting after girl drill team members occupied nearly all of my time. I did well enough academically to get into the university of my choice.

Chuckaroobob07 Jun 2017 1:04 p.m. PST

Space Cadet would be closest.

I filled out my activities with the standard nerdy stuff for the back of the high school annual. But the best was the Latin Club.

The others either had few meetings or I quickly drifted away from attending. Even the Latin Club was a short experience. But we had a banquet. I volunteered to be the photographer so I didn't feel the need to wear something silly. But the girls …

Lots of Roman gown looks that would have been … impractical for an ordinary school day.

You could say I enjoyed it.

JSchutt07 Jun 2017 5:34 p.m. PST

I was part of the "leave school ground by any means…as soon as possible" group. As if zombies had been spotted in the cafeteria.

Stoner, I think. Can't seem to remember much more than a blue haze of smoke and the sound of beer cans opening.

skinkmasterreturns08 Jun 2017 6:58 a.m. PST

College prep, played football, but I never got that woodshop project done our senior year because we were always sneaking off to buy beer.

steamingdave4708 Jun 2017 9:39 a.m. PST

Debating Club, Field Club (natural history) so a bit nerdy, but also captain of Rugby team, so pretty balanced🤔?

Howler10 Jun 2017 7:35 p.m. PST

New Jersey Devil07 Jan 2018 8:17 p.m. PST

I was a Skinhead. Not all of us were racists…also a quite good Lacrosse goalie with a very good goals against average.

Rudysnelson09 Jan 2018 7:18 p.m. PST

Small school so I and the other students wore multiple hats.
Finished 6 in the class and number 1 was also a football player.
I played football, basketball, baseball and co-founded the first golf team.
Worked in a flower shop every day after school. I did mainly the books but did make arrangements. The only two things I did not like to do was take flowers to the nursing home and pinning flowers onto dead bodies but still did them.
Not a cool guy as I was a transfer, 9 grade, so I was outside most clicks. I was the coach sponsor player on the towns first integrated intramural basketball team since I owned the uniforms. LOL.
Besides a long term cheerleader as a girl friend, I dated eight different cheerleaders and three majorettes. Later in college I dated another college cheerleader who was also Miss Alabama. So I did ok for not being in the cool click.
Nerd enough to win a four year acedemic scholarship.

rampantlion10 Jan 2018 10:37 a.m. PST

Played basketball and baseball, no other clubs.

Uparmored29 Jan 2018 4:07 a.m. PST

Loser. I was in the "potential plus" club. It was setup for kids with learning disabilities.

I got milkshakes tipped on my head from high windows, punched in the guts a lot, had my lunch money stolen.

When I got taller I punched small kids in the guts and took their money. I cheated and stole my way through school. More money for comic books.

I used to play Heroes Unlimited and Robotech RPGs on weekends.

If I had known what Straight Edge was I woulda been it. I proudly rejected the strong culture of drinking and doing drugs at school. I believed in comics like GI Joe and Reagan's (Later Bush's) War on Drugs. I hated drugs coz that's what dumb hippies like my Mum would have done.

Now? I drink a lot (like badasses like Lee Marvin and Sam Pekinpah) but still would never do drugs like a hippy.

Mike Target22 Feb 2018 11:14 a.m. PST

I was in the Model Railway society and a founder member of the Wargames and Roleplay club. Dabbled in the chess club a little.

No good at any of the sports regularly played at school until quite late on when they introduced hockey into the schools repetoire and I discovered that charging around a field with a big stick and laughing like a maniac was very much the kind of sport I liked to play…
