Trying again. We are looking for instrumental music only this time, and only instrumental music composed for the program.

Some of my favorites:
The A Team
Wiseguy
Tales of the Gold Monkey
Combat!
Rat Patrol

Yes, a little heavy on brass and drums. I'm like that.

So I guess the Bug ate the first one.

OK,I'll try manfully to do my part in the reconstruction. Working backwards:

My highly idiosyncratic list of personal favorites, roughly in chronological order:

Peter Gunn (1958-1961) – Henry Mancini

The Addams Family (1964-1966) – Vic Mizzy
Mission: Impossible (1966-1973) – Lalo Schifrin
Hawaii Five-O (1968-1980) – Morton Stevens
Sherlock Holmes (starring Jeremy Brett, 1984-1994) – Patrick Gowers
Inspector Morse (1987-2000) – Barrington Pheloung
Jeeves and Wooster (1990-1993) – Anne Dudley
Midsomer Murders (1997 – present) – Jim Parker
Cowboy Bebop (1998) – The Seatbelts
Hustle (British series, 2004-2012) – Simon Rogers
Rome (2005-2007) – Jeff Beal

Searching through early shows for the "appropriated" music thread, I was surprised to find a pretty neat original, the Captain Midnight March:

Off topic (sorry Robert),but I wonder how many still have their Secret Squadron Decoder Badge:

Or their Secret Squadron patch ("so if I need your help,I can recognize you in the street!"):

And all for the price of a jar of Ovaltine.

I was wondering how the initials for "Secret Squadron" became "SQ". But then I reflected that having a bunch of Fifties kids running around wearing "SS" patches wouldn't have gone over very well.

"Maverick." Yeah, I know it had lyrics, but not when the show began. They only added lyrics later during the show's run.

"Wagon Train," was the reverse of the above; it had a rather poor song for its theme during the first season or two, but then switched to the classic instrumental theme that it used for many years.

"Gunsmoke."

Though I did not care much for the series, "The Virginian" (mid-60's)had a great theme.

Cyrus: I too, loved the music of Twin Peaks-- all of it. There was an interesting recent interview with Angelo Badalamenti on NPR. You can read it (or better, listen to it) here:
