Yeah we thought it would be a good thing. The college game club and history dept are behind us, and we should have support from the very active ROTC.

Running a 1806 napoleonic scenario for the Battle of Saalfeld on sunday (Oct 1st). Saturday Daniel and I (Wargamerabbit) are the GM's for the FOW 20mm post war (just) Russo-American "technology grasping" scenario. Basic plan or scenario has five "area zones" of German technological research, each with the latest modeled German late war drawing board stuff, their technical staff running about, and some diehard Nazis teams to mess up the works. Americans and Russians enter the table from several points of entry, seek out the "technical stuff, or better, the technical staff teams, and quickly exit the board with their loot or captives, then return for more. The nazis teams of course with aim for their german "traitors" and there will be conflict as to which side grasp what or "desires" what the other side is trying to escape with, and "push the gun barrel" and "loud shooting" which could lead to a shooting misunderstanding. They of course will call in their supports if threatened… and the tabletop could become a three way.

Sort of a FOW raid game with the SAS/LRDG but with Russian and American mechanized platoons and the local natives are shooting too (Nazis). More posted later in June for the convention FOW 1945 game on my Wargamerabbit blog after I post the GAMEX convention material and scenario AARs (Battle of Troina Sicily 1943 FOW 20mm and napoleonic Battle of Gospic 1809 scenario).

To add information to this post subject… here is a blog link for the Operation Market Garden scenario game mentioned: opmktgdn.blogspot.com

Tim Keennon
Our Treasurer, Tim Keennon, passed away on July 16th. Those of us who knew Tim recognized him for his constant devotion to our hobby, his hard work taking care of our Organization and his humor and knowledge of history. Since many people do not read these newsletters, do us all a favor and call a friend to talk about Tim.

Elections
We will be sending out ballots for the fall elections in a few weeks. Please take a minute to note the last time you sent in dues, as only dues paying members can vote or hold office. I will be including membership cards with the ballot mailing. If you did not attend Mini-Wars 2016 in Van Nuys, and you haven't sent us a check or paid via Pay Pal since then, you probably need to re-up right now to get a ballot and membership card. Email the president ASAP if you have any questions, or would like to be added to the ballot for the Board of Directors.

Mini-Wars 2017
The ROTC on CSUF campus has answered and they will be in attendance at Mini-Wars.

IPMS
Your President was the guest speaker at the July International Plastic Model Society meeting in Orange County. I spoke about Historicon, our common love of models and how much Mini-Wars / Orange -Con means to both organizations. The talk was well received and their members asked a lot of questions about the games we are offering. Not surprisingly, most of them have played a wargame or two in their lifetimes. They will have a new category in their judging this year. Wargaming models. I will post the judging criteria as soon as I get it.

Games List for Mini-Wars
We still have room for some games on Saturday and Sunday Forward your information to Kevin Rounsaville. His contact information can be found on our website.

Historicon 2018
Historicon 2018 is one year away. We are going to see if we can get a discount on airfare for our group. Round trip airfare should be less than $600. USD Four days at the hotel for $250 USD (if you share a room). With a little creativity in how you spend your money you might get by on as little as $1,250. USD for the entire trip. Start saving today and $125 USD a month gets you there in one year, $60 USD a month would be enough to attend every other year.

Many tanks,
Harmon Ward
President HMGS-PSW
