High in a remote area of the Oetztaler Alps in northern Italy, 5,300 years ago, Oetzi the Iceman was shot in the back with an arrow.

It hit a main artery and he probably bled to death within minutes.

His body was preserved in the ice, making him one of the oldest and best-preserved mummies on Earth.

Oetzi was first discovered in 1991 and scientists discovered the flint arrowhead lodged in his shoulder 10 years later.

Was it murder? And who might have killed him?

It might have been me I've been playing a lot of Farcry Primal on my play station and have shot countless hairy pre-historic people in the back with my bow…

Look for the next season of "New Tricks" or the "Bones" reunion special. But jurisdictional claims will be interesting.

Oops! Sorry. I landed my disabled time machine coupe on him in a heavy fog, while he was sleeping in a giant elk carcass. Sorry. I didn't mean too!

Monk discovered this years ago, but alas, was interrupted without a summation, as he was still on another case. (It's a joke but in the first episode with Natalie.)

The Statute of Limitations does not apply in cases of murder
So whoever's guilty better watch his ass.

I admit it. It was me.

NO ONE!

The latest archaeological research says that the arrow wound probably didn't kill him, he froze to death! link

Typical of BBC News to be a couple of years behind the times!

"It wasn't the bullet that killed him. It was lead poisoning."

If I recall correctly, the jurisdiction was disputed by Italy and Switzerland ("No, not ours, other side of the border!") until it was established that the deceased was prehistoric and not a lost tourist. Jurisdiction was still disputed, but then both countries wanted Oetzi.
