Howdy, Dark Ages miniatures battle: Byzantines and Sassanids. Fun times at the HobbyTown in Frederick, MD. A playtest for my game at Historicon in July. Played with 15mm figures (mostly Essex), using Might of Arms. Photo 1 -Initial deployments
Photo 2 – Byzantine Infantry
Photo 3 – Byzantine Cavalry
Photo 4 – Sassanid Infantry
Photo 5 – Sassanid Cavalry
The Battle of Solachon against the Persians in 586 is described as an illustration of what a well led Byzantine army could do against the odds when they beat a larger Persian army. Can our players do as well? It was a fun game. Ponder on, JAS

Great report. Nicely done all around. |

Howdy, Thanks, but didn't try to present a battle report. It was hard to follow from pictures, an incomplete photo story (at some points I simply forgot to take'em, being involved with the game). The Byzantines won big in the center, and eked a win on their left. The primary Sassanid push on the Byzantine right was contained. Ponder on, JAS

1000 points each side. Early Byzantine list (No. 73) vs Sassanid Persian list (No. 62). JAS |

I always had my doubts about the Byzantine account of Solachon. It all seemed trite, especially the standard trope about 'undisciplined troops'. Looks nice though. |
