I'm restarting my WW2 Mediterranean collection (1:3000) in a smaller scale so I can fight fleet actions with Battlestations! Battlestations!

I've got some 1:6000 for RN v Kriegsmarine, which I'm very happy with, but in view of this post:

I'm seriously tempted by 1:4800.

The only problem is the paucity of RN destroyers. I can get virtually everything I need but I can't find an A-I classes or V/Ws. Tribals and lend-lease, yes, but not the most common types.

Have I missed something in my search? Just checking before committing to 1:6000 that I'm not missing a chance to use these beautiful models.

Cheers,

Nick

Looks like shapeways has V/Ws at least.

I have no experience with these so I can't speak to the quality. But they look nice enough to me that i'm also tempted to give 1/4800 a try

Shapeways FUD is flimsy and can have warping issues. Using bases may help with this. I don't use bases, so stick with 1/6000.

Cheers guys, I do use bases but without A-I classes I'll have to stick with 1:6k in any case – still nice, but the 1:4.8k do look gorgeous.

Thanks for finding the V/Ws Festerfest.

If I'm reading this correctly, there is a C class DD listed, #328

Bob – you're a star mate! I didn't even know this line still existed. C class will be fine for any of the A-I classes in this scale.

Cheers!

You may need to use a bit of imagination Not sure if this link will work, but it should show a photograph of some MY British destroyers:

Thanks Colkitto, but I'm afraid I can't see them

FYI; Mick Yarrow's 1/4800 ships appear to be based on the 1970s-era Leicester Micro Models line, with gun barrels added on the larger ships. That means that most of the line is pretty crude, in terms of scale, proportion, and detail. Nothing like matt_atknsn's Shapeways stuff.

OTOH, the 1970s Leicester castings were mostly lead, so were quite modifiable, if one had the skills and desire to do so. And finally, back then, that's all there was in small scales.
