Finally finished my Rifles from Brigade Games Miniatures (I persist in getting their name wrong and it does matter! I also said they were impossible to import into the UK and they got here even quicker than a Perry order would).
That completes Adam's Brigade….well the skirmishers anyway…….
Even then, odd that 52nd standards are out front, so exposed. 71st are in a ripe cornfield in June. Not sure how a Young Guard ended up with you know who, in the sandpit, let alone an Engineer of the Guard.
I have seen the faces much better done on this forum. These are still not my strong point. I think I might just drybrush the blond lad's hair with gold yet.
Many more pics here, of the individuals, but these give the overall impression I think.

Great paint work , did you have to pay import tax on them when they entered the UK ?

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP27 May 2017 10:55 a.m. PST

Ah, how is the best way to answer this question?

This was my worry, oft expressed. It was not the extra cost. I am entirely happy, indeed delighted, I see it as my moral duty, to fund those things that the UK government thinks worthy of extracting from my hard earned income. My worry was that the import would then be impounded and held by our postal service. I would then get a bill for the duty…and for postal service holding….and then have to drive to collect.

Happened with my Saxon Garde du Corps from Oz (which is not currently even in rebellion against HM the Queen!), happened with my second pair of Altama Desert Boots from US(first pair froze to the surface in Red Square in February and cracked a few years back..it was quite chilly). Both cases doubled the cost (I do exaggerate that I admit)

Ask no more, lest our sins find us out.

No……they said "no problem" (as every Asian Indian I have ever met, whilst they do that thing with their necks, says….and like them…however much you panic…they are proved right…there is never a problem in the end!)

Do not ask again. Just try an order. I repeatedly expressed this concern on this forum…….until I tried it. I want 2nd Light KGL now

Very nice painting of very nice figures, can we ask for more?

You mean the whole 71st, 52nd and 95th in line? I wish…

'er indoors has laid down the law….. seems I can finish the Saxon Artillery and the RHA horse holder. That is the compromise….

But anything beyond that and I am in big trouble…

I think their 2nd Light KGL are even better…….

But I know the film…

"Charleroi?" etc

I did….in late 70s. Solo. WWI trench warfare in 25mm metals and Heroics and Ros WWII airborne against LAH SS. My side got massacred which ever period I played. So I started to make Guards Armoured and a naval assault with scratch built LCTs and LCAs. Being me I got more into the landing craft and forgot the gaming..LCTRs, LCFs, LCGs…did the lot and never used one of them.

These 95th will end up in the attic with the rest……

Mad

Thanks all for looking and kind comments. The faces have been better done here before on two occasions, I must hunt the links (I did save the pics, so least I can do)

Found them both and there may be others….but in both, see how they did the faces……

What you should do, Deaders, is put those on display in your surgery and when the punters say "Gosh, Mr. Deadhead, did you paint those yourself?" you roar with laughter.

"Are you kidding? If I drank enough to stop my hands shaking so I could paint like that, I'd be so pie-eyed, I wouldn't be able to see them! You should see me trimming flash off plastics with a scalpel – I trim more skin off the ends of my fingers! Now, about your reconstructive bum surgery – when shall we book you in?"

Maybe on your last working day…

janner28 May 2017 10:06 p.m. PST

Nicely done, Deaders thumbs up

I'm struggling to see whats wrong with the faces!

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP29 May 2017 8:58 a.m. PST

Enjoying a nice day off with a bottle of Chianti, to steady the hands, 4th Cuirassier, while I put my RHA into a vegetable patch. Not easy to get the look convincingly……..the vegetable patch I mean….

But the faces.

They are funny things. Second picture, chap nearest the camera, advancing in profile. Every time I look at him I see our Duke of Edinburgh.

In all seriousness, the human brain can see faces out of a few dots and lines. All you have to do is find some nice castings, paint with the remnants of Tallarn Flesh (ten years old and almost gone) wash with Ogryn Flesh (same applies) and you suddenly "see" a face. Any highlighting to cheeks, nose, chin just helps. I'll do eyebrows, but never eyes or lips.

The links I provided show skill in subtle face work that I aspire to ….but not yet. I slightly fleshed out Harper's face and added a tiny bit to Sharpe's hair, in the parting….to get that early Sean Bean look

I liked the browned rifle barrels here. Always did them in gunmetal before, indeed they started thus and I overpainted

Very nice Liam!!! And proper dramatic effects as well!
I swear, the moment I looked at it I also thought it was a photo from some reenactment!! I was also disturbed that they had set fire to that nice mansion….
Excellent set-up Sir!

Excellent work mate!!! ;-)

I had your book open several times, believe me, to remind me of colours and highlights to use.

The fire photo was a Godsend to me (Daily Telegraph and the instant I saw it I just knew..) but a disaster for the stately home involved…….many a treasure lost. But glad to say I was not an arsonist here….
