My local 1/2 Price Books store is running a 20% off sale so I thought I'd drop in and take a look around. In the role-playing games section I found a copy of Axe and Arrow by Brian Harris published by Little Solider Games in 1977, and The Age of Chivalry by Marshall Rose published by Avant-Garde Simulations Perspectives in 1978. Both are in good condition and TAoC has four color copied play sheets that have survived the test of time.

Axe and Arrows is a rules light mass combat game, while TAoC is man to man combat in the age of chivalry. TAoC appears rather fiddly due to a ton of modifiers, weapon vs. armor type charts, etc…

I did a rules overview of Axe and Arrow and a replay of the Battle of Heraclea with them:

The rules are OK – not great, not bad; Would play them again if offered.

Just reporting that I 'salvaged' some treasures. :) I bought Axes and Arrows for $2 USD and TAoC for $3. USD

I liked the review. I'll probably pass on playing it since you've done the hard work already.
