I also seem to remember someone on TMP a while back scratch-building an amazing Wokou pirate ship/boat a couple of years back, using balsa, bamboo or bass wood strips, but I can't find it now.

It was about 2 or 3 years ago and looked very close to the Wokou ship in this painting. Does it sound familiar to you guys?

Ok. I didn't find the cool TMP discussion I was looking for, but I found the actual project in question.

I really think you guys are gonna be impressed and inspired. I have been.

NOTE -
I'd still love to hear about any scratch-built "Wokou" ships you guys have been working on, and see some pictures of your progress. Thanks.

Oh my God! Those look amazing. Did you do a tutorial? Did you follow a template? Did you make one?

Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't make a tutorial. I just built them using the same picture from Turnbull's book. One hint: for the railing, I used a soft plastic grid that you can find in hobby stores like Michaels (Darice® #7 Canvas Mesh)
