'Theresa May to tackle Donald Trump over Manchester bombing evidence ' link One of the stories from the Manchester bombing. Passing on sensitive info that is basically given in confidence seems to be becoming a bit of a problem with the US – I think this general issue seems to be escalating. First the DT one, now this, I really, really think the US needs to get it's house in order when dealing with this kind of thing. At what point do Allies just start leaving the US out of the link in some cases? |

Trump gave the location of 2 nuclear USN submarines in a telephone conversation with President Duterte of the Philippines. A very big No No. |

"But a quick check of the U.S. Navy's website shows the Navy itself publicly announced the USS Michigan's arrival in Busan on April 25 in a news release, four days before Trump's phone call with Duterte. On May 2, the Navy announced in another news release that the USS Cheyenne had arrived at Sasebo." DM |

It's all Russia's fault I say. It's "bad, very bad" which means Russia must clearly be involved. We should probe US intelligence's ties with Russia. |

The SSN discussion is a diversion from the original topic anyway. Personally speaking, it is disappointing that the US officials concerned are either childishly trying to show off how important they are because they know "secrets n stuff" or, worse, are much too cosy with news agencies |

It's starting to look as though the news agencies have bugged every major government office and are now getting all their info in near-real time. And how they release that classified info depends on who they are really working for. Dan |

Probably the same people who are leaking to damage the new Trump admin. |

You mean, the senior staff in the White House? It's an open secret that they've been the source of almost all of the leaks, until recently. There's even a guide on how to tell which one leaked a particular bit of information, based on language patterns. Some if it is pretty obvious, once it's pointed out. Not surprised about the war between the President and the intelligence agencies, unfortunately. Throwing insults at them during the campaign did not get things off on the right foot, and there are a lot of Comey loyalists in the FBI who are furious about the firing and think that it was part of a cover-up. I can't speak for the counter-intelligence side of the FBI, but a lot of rank-and-file agents on the criminal investigation side who were really angry about Hillary Clinton seem to have switched to despising the President. Just based on what I'm hearing in a limited sample. |

There is an old saying that two men can keep a secret if one is dead. Way too many US intelligence agencies equals leaks leaks leaks. |

If US intelligence agencies are leaking details to the US media for internal political reasons, then it will go down even less well than it has already here in the UK, as they are playing with people's lives. This morning, it was pointed out that the leaking of the suspect's name had potentially compromised the operation to roll up the network and bag all the supporting network. The leaking of the images of the crime scene, caused distress to the families of the victims, and the items recovered also compromised the operation and the ongoing intelligence effort. Its unsurprising that Manchester Police are no longer playing ball with a politicised leaky sieve. |

The fallout might force the Five Eyes to change its name to "Four Eyes" (if Britain drops out) or even "Cyclops" (leaving the US by itself since its intel appatatus can't keep secrets). |

It's unlikely 5 eyes would go down, and if it did then the terrorists would have another victory all for some petty points scoring in the US. Mind you, reports are that other (non 5 eyes) states are sucking their teeth at this as well. So a few slapped legs now might get the kids back into line, whether its the Trumpsters or the US intelligence agencies is irrelevant. I am reminded of the scene from Blackadder (the First), as to how the leg slapping should go: King: Egbert… (Edmund slowly tries to pretend not to hear) King: Come here… (Edmund slowly continues his turn, to come to King. He bows repeatedly, and begins to kiss King's hand, which grabs him and pulls him up.) King: A word of advice: if you cross me now, or ever, I shall do unto you what God did unto the Sodomites. Harry: Oh, My Lord, I don't think that's a very good idea. King: You understand? Edmund: Well, I shall make myself available for all eventualities. Thank you so much. (He steps backward, bowing repeatedly, and bumps into a set of drawers. Then he adjusts his movements so he backs out into an open hallway. He turns, but leaves his head and hands poking through, still bowing, for a while, until he finally rounds the corner and speaks so himself.) Flee! (he runs down the hall) |

Ah, good, latest news: Confirmation from the National Police Chiefs Council that intelligence sharing has resumed. Its national counter-terrorism policing lead, assistant commissioner Mark Rowley, said We greatly value the crucial relationship with our trusted partners around the world so we can collaborate and share sensitive information to defeat terrorism and protect the public at home and abroad. While we do not usually comment on information sharing arrangements with international law enforcement organisations, we want to emphasise that, having received fresh assurances, we are now working closely with our key partners around the world including all those in the ‘Five Eyes' intelligence alliance. the next slap will be a bit higher I'm guessing. |

I remember reading a book, Enter the Dragon about the Korean war seen from the Chinese side. One of the contributors said that they got most of their information about US activities from reading US newspapers. |
