You and me both… and my Langtons collect dust for lack of an opponent.

I would rather do some non-historicals

- Argentina VS Chili circa 1902
- German incursion into Baltic, 1917
- Early predreads 1893, later predreads 1902
- European ironclads 1870ish, 1880ish
- Turkey vs Russia, 1916
- Twilight of the gun line, 1958

All these I could do… sniff…. if there was a naval gamer near by.

Lowestoft. I'd like to do the Four Days too.

Anglo-Dutch Wars battles are permanently on my list. The most likely naval bucket list battles to happen in the next few years are Lepanto, and the obscure but glorious battle of Gibraltar in 1607:

But to be honest, the real answer is "all of them". Generally speaking, if I read about it, I end up wanting to play it.

Heck, I want to play it even if I make it up from whole cloth. I have miniatures for never-wars like the American vs. Japanese pre-dreadnought era war in 1908-1909, the Franco-American war in Mexico in 1866, Rozhestvensky vs. the Royal Navy in 1904/5, Italo-Germano-Austro-Hungarian fleet vs. the Franco-British fleet in the WWI Mediterranean, the "Italia Irridenta Wars" in the 1880s (Italian ironclads vs. British or French for Malta, Corsica, Tunisia, etc.), and have played several already.

I have to choose just one? Since I can't get enough of naval gaming.

Here's some suggestions:

Battle of Ecnomus (256 BC)

Dutch Wars

Toulon and The Glorious First of June (1893) from "The Captain of the Mary Rose"

Trafalgar 1905 from ""Trafalgar Refougth" (1905)
