Hi guys, with the flags that are for the backs of the figures, there doesn't seem to be any obvious ways of connecting such as locating holes…..or am I missing something?

Nope, you didn't miss anything. You have to just find a flat spot on the armor and eyeball it.
As I understand it, not all troops had the sashimoto. I might be wrong, but only those troops that were expected to participate in melee tended to have them.

Hmmm, I think I read somewhere that the Samurai would sometimes have their Sashimono removed by a Ashigura attendant just before melee!
