Expanded game board to 6 foot 7 x 12foot 1/2 inch. At 40 yds per inch in 15mm scale will go from Round top to all of Gettysburg and can go from ridge behind peach orchard/ Seminary Ridge to line from Culps hill base south. So first up terrain, I thought I did well with day 1 so see what I can come up with.

I always take some but have no way of posting as I have no way of putting them on line.

I will have to get pictures somehow for this project. Anyway started building up terrain from Big Round Top to Cemetery Hill. The town base is 412ft, Cemetery Hill at 500, Little Round Top 548 and Big Round Top 604 and at 16 1/2 feet a step its a lot of layers. Can't get all ( the high points are the easiest) want a good general layout. I had made a one piece road layout for the town for my Day 1 game and put it in a safe place, now don't know where that safe place is. Can make another if need be.

Finished layout of hills, roads, buildings then today woods. For woods I use green felt then put tree models on with just a couple so as not clog up space. Tree modles then fences and stone walls, I thought I had a lot but don't have near enough.

sounds like a really big project and it's coming along.

would love to see the progress with pictures. why can't you post pictures?

anyway, keep it up.

I have no account for that but with the time I am putting in I will have to get something
Am going to start more walls and working on more fences. Had more tree trunks than I knew so am easily going to get 2 trees on each felt piece except small ones.

I would suggest using photobucket. it's free and what I use (you can see examples on my WIDTW thread). Just upload and paste the link.

anyways, good luck and keep it up.

Built a lot of stone walls yesterday and started layout of fences. I made enough stone walls I think and have a lot of fences but need much much much more, mostly snake rails.
I made around 20 stone walls in about 2 hrs. I take 1/4 wide 1'16 or so thick wood or mdf and coat with spackle to rough them up and give thickness. I used quick set mixing compound so they dried fast. Then I use Krylon Granite Stone spray. I should have primed them grey as it took a couple of coats to cover the white base. So now I need yto make as many fences as I can.
The other thing I am discovering is my hill/ wood layout isn't perfect but I'm not doing it for the War College so it will have to do.

By tomorrow I will be finished the game board, have made dozens of trees, loads of fences (both kinds) paint touch ups. I need to add some woods on east side of Little Round Top but doubt I will get any trees on those wooded patches. I have made 3 boxes of fences with toothpicks and still are far short of what there should be. Even stone walls I'm short but not so much. Also want to mark out the orchards with a lighter felt. Should get photos between board is done and any troops get posted.

All the pertinent troops are close to were they need to be on the board, the Confederates are not as important as they are stepping forward, but need to look at the Union troops as they are defending or backing up the front line. Just as example Graham's brigade in the 1st Div III Corp is the 2nd Silesian Inf Regt's 1st and 2nd Battalions. Kershaw's brigade in the 1st Div I corp is the 1st and 3rd battalions of the Ekaterinburg Inf Regt and 3rd battalion of Kapor Inf Regt. The Union battery's were more broken up mostly as the 6 6pdrs are 1 battery and the 7prs from 3 batteries as a composite. The Confederate artillery is easy with the Russians batterys. I am going to keep the brigades as my primary movement and am going to play the Confederacy and the Union will be defending. Have 1-4 of July off to get started and no deadline to meet for the end.
I took pictures of the board without troops to post sometime and will take battle progression

Just a finale to this game.
As per Empire 3 rules you roll to see how many impulses or turns are in the hour, 4 is the most usual but not if I roll.Turn 1 was but 2 and 3 were only 2. Turn 4 was cut short as 2 Vohlynia of Robertson brigade broke ending Hood's move
then 1&2 Seleguinsk of Semmes brigade broke ending McLaw's move, 5 and 6 again were only 2 moves. The whole game was pretty much bad die rolling unless it was for shooting there all my dice work was rocking. The Confederate's lost 30 ( figures)by art, 59 by small arms, the Union lost 27 by art, 42 by sa, 2 by close action. The Confederates had Devil's Den but lost it in the end, they hold the Peach Orchard and the Bliss Farm. And found out the Russian Confederates are going to have to move up their artillery for Pickett's charge, their 12 pounders did pick off some figures but the 6 pounders are out of range to Cemetery Hill. Will post some pictures as soon as I get it ironed out.
Also being short in the 4th of July long weekend, that next week finished on the next Saturday, had it all packed up Sunday in 6 hrs.
