The Indian Mutiny, both sides. Or the Boxer Rebellion.

I am currently marshaling 1920s Foreign Legion and Moroccans to expand what I can play with "The Sword in North Africa."

I've got Pathans and Ethiopians and tons of various Europeans. I'm leaning towards Hereros next.

Mmmmmmmmm…Boxer Rebellion

basileus6621 May 2017 2:18 p.m. PST

Indian Mutiny and then Zulu War, although those 1898 Miniatures are very tempting.

Cheriton21 May 2017 2:20 p.m. PST

The Indian Mutiny, Afghan campaigns and the Boxer Rebellion. all in 28mm. The Mutiny and Afghan projects in progress, Boxers on paper.

Discovered a burgeoning company which I hope will add even more variety to the forces of the Imperial enemies. Ordered several packs of Chinese and Afghans.

Very nice, wish them good fortune, worth a look…

If anyone is interested I have a lot of unpainted Wargames Foundry Afghans, Indian Mutiny and Taipings )which can be used for Boxers) which I would love to sell. PM if interested.

Carlo Fantom21 May 2017 2:47 p.m. PST

a decent set of Maori in 15mm that's all I want…

…also Boxers and the First Sino-Japanese War and the Coronado Expedition.

Winston Smith21 May 2017 2:58 p.m. PST

Indian Mutiny, although I'm sure the Indians have a more pc name for it.

I think they call it The War for Modern Day Political Opportunism.

Abyssinians. I have the figures just never got started painting.

KSmyth21 May 2017 3:32 p.m. PST

The Sudan 1882-1898. Everything, the whole ball of wax. Will get started sometime in 2018

willthepiper21 May 2017 3:35 p.m. PST

Winston: I've seen references to the Mutiny as 'The First War of Independence'. And proponents of each name are able to go on in great detail as to why the other name is wrong.

As for me, the North West Rebellion, aka the Second Riel Rebellion, aka the North West Resistance, aka etc (I think I'll go with the North West Unrest). Whichever name it goes by, I'd like to collect Metis and Cree in 28mm. Just need the time and energy to get the project started.

brass121 May 2017 3:58 p.m. PST

A mining project in the lead mountain has yielded a minor trove of 10mm Zulus and British and Boers, so I've decided to use the Zulus as Matabeles for the 2nd Matabele War with British colonial troops and Boers as the Bulawayo Field Force. At the rate I paint, the first impi should be finished in time for the 200th anniversary.

Boxer Rebellion, la Legion, NWF… They're all good.

oldjarhead121 May 2017 5:05 p.m. PST

In 15mm I am working on Boxers, already finished Pathans, Afghans, Sudanese, and Zulus. Unpainted I have Bedouin, Masai and Abyssinians

Portuguese..for Africa..I have all the rest..

mrinku21 May 2017 7:34 p.m. PST

I'm eyeing off a 28mm Ruga-Ruga one for DitDC. What with Foundry's 24 different ones, the line over at Northstar and being able to throw in pretty much any African with a musket as a creditable soldier I'm hoping to have a fully figure unique collection.

The other one I'd like to tackle is an 1889 Wissmanntruppe one. I have a batch of Copplestone marines, but lovely as they are their uniform is the 1898 issue. Besides which those are really reinforcements and what are mostly needed are Askari figures anyway.

coolyork21 May 2017 8:59 p.m. PST

I would also be interested in the Russians in Turkestan in 1870's . Who makes figures for that beside ASKARI ?

Personal logo piper909 Supporting Member of TMP21 May 2017 9:35 p.m. PST

Ruga-Ruga, oh yeah, I've got a large heap of these, and if I organize and paint 'em up, along with my scads of Darkest Africa natives, and Zanzibari slavers, I'd have lots and lots of enemies of the Queen and the Third Republic to make trouble with.

Personal logo Wolfshanza Supporting Member of TMP21 May 2017 10:56 p.m. PST

Have Boxers, Mahdists, Zulu and Darkest Africa. Starting on an Old Glory Afghan force :)

willthepiper21 May 2017 11:22 p.m. PST

While not strictly speaking for Turkestan, you can use Russo-Turkish War (the 1877 one) from Eureka Miniatures or Outpost. Here they are L-R Eureka, Askari and Outpost:

If you want to push the action a bit later (say 1890s) you can use Russians from the Boxer Rebellion, available from such companies as Redoubt or Old Glory.

My Russian army is supported by Copplestone Cossacks – slightly anachronistic as their carbines are too modern but I'm willing to overlook that ;)

Indian Mutiny is WIP. So far three mutineer brigades and 1 British one finished. Starting on the cavalry now. All in 28mm of course. Who could resist those lovely Iron Duke miniatures?
That said I also have some Foundry conversion mixed in and a few Mutineer and Studio miniatures ones as well.
Speaking of the latter I liked their figures so much I decide that I would make a small Afghan/ British army too. Already have most of the Afhans/Pathans so only need the British for what I would call a Small Colonial Affair.

Would Napoleon in Egypt also be a 'colonial' army?

Personal logo Bobgnar Supporting Member of TMP22 May 2017 8:33 a.m. PST

I have all of them except anything with Russians.

I'm presently engaged in painting 25mm skirmish figures for the 1st and 2nd Boer War. So, I'm painting Brits in both the colorful red coats and drab-looking khaki.

The Sikh Wars…Mostly Foundry with some Old Glory

Lion in the Stars25 May 2017 8:44 p.m. PST

Pathan Revolt of 1897-98. Lots of action. But I will never have enough Pathans… (Pretty sure that's a rule of Colonial gaming, like how you can never have enough Zulus)

Murvihill26 May 2017 8:03 a.m. PST

20mm Maoris. I'm able to find most of what I want for the other armies in the queue (Indian Mutiny/Sikh Wars, Crimeans, Boers) but haven't found any appropriate Maoris yet.

Collecting figures for Spanish-American War from 1898 Miniaturas. Good to get in at the startup instead of playing catchup.

Oh, almost forgot: 55 days in Peking is really tempting to do, but I'd do it in 15mm.

17thC /18thC Mughals…although they spent more time running away from the English than fighting them it seems.

Blake Walker30 May 2017 9:17 p.m. PST

I finished my 28mm Darkest Africa Masai Warriors and Colonial Germans.

My next project for 2018 is 28mm Madhist Dervishers. I have about 200 infantry, 25 cavalry and 1 impressed Krupp gun and crew for the Ansar army. Lots of Fuzzy Wuzzies, too.
