New Warhammer 40,000: Close Combat Weapons from link Let's take a look at some close combat weapons, shall we?

Yay. Power fists (and Thunderhammers) no longer strike last! |
The Beast Rampant | 19 May 2017 7:48 a.m. PST |
…Copyright violation? Huzzah- the damned chainsword is no longer S4. It took them seven editions to figure that one out. "Even the humble chainsword gets a boost. No longer just a standard combat weapon, the iconic combat weapon wielded by the Adeptus Astartes and many other forces, now gives its bearer more attacks in combat. Perfect for grinding through hordes of low armoured troops, the chainsword now functions on the battlefield how it always has in your head. This change also helps differentiate dedicated combat troops from those just wielding improvised or side-arm weapons." There's a lot to like in that paragraph. |

Whut? Where's the info? :/ |
The Beast Rampant | 19 May 2017 7:56 a.m. PST |
There's a link. I always just use the link anyway. I like the pic they use at the top. Though with the power weapons, I don't like that you're looking DIRECTLY at that S to T ratio to decide whether to take the axe or sword. The gaminess come through a bit there. |
nvdoyle | 19 May 2017 7:57 a.m. PST |
So, why did this get snipped? Copyright violation? Seriously? Did TMP get a C&D? …anyway, back to the topic at hand (to hand!)… This fits with what we've seen so far, in that melee will be a bit tougher to get into, but assault units are going to be scary. Good balance on the power weapons, but I'd like to have seen those non-sword AP values translated over to SW:A. |

How many days has Judge Doug been posting these for now without a hint that there was any problem? |
basileus66 | 19 May 2017 9:27 a.m. PST |
I am confused. Why has Doug been DHd for Copyright Infrigement if he has been posting this stuff every day from two weeks now? |
basileus66 | 19 May 2017 9:29 a.m. PST |
By the way, my Ork warlord approves the changes in CC weapons. More deadly is more Orkish. |
Ping Pong | 19 May 2017 9:40 a.m. PST |
GW wants people to share the news. It's all over the web. Judge Doug should be freed. |
HUBCommish | 19 May 2017 9:41 a.m. PST |
Well so much for the daily 40K updates from Doug. If the penalty for posting them is a DHing I guess nobody will take over for him. Bummer! Guess I'll have to visit some other forums for my daily 40k update discussion. |

Weird, as he cited his source and his use of it falls within what is considered 'fair use'. What I don't understand is not only does Doug properly post the material, he creates insightful discourse on the subject. Another member, who is a worse offender by far, seems to just copy and paste without adding value to a subject. And does so with impunity. |
PMC317 | 19 May 2017 10:55 a.m. PST |
Yeh, not sure what's happened to get Doug DH'd. Seems a massive overreaction frankly. I've really enjoyed the discussions around his posts. |

Here is the discussion on reddit if you want to see what people are saying about the redacted information: link |

Well Power Fist/Gloves are no longer "Always Strike Last" But they did take a bit of a nerfing due to being -1 to hit. Power Swords are once again very nasty due to that -3 Armor Save. They will tear right through most armor. Which means that Howling Banshee's will once again be a very nasty unit to go up against. Space Marine Assault squads got a boost since they come with Chainswords. Charge 10 on them into a unit of 20 Orks and between the Chainswords and the Ork Morale test should see those 20 Orks go away. |

There's no way GW complained about copyright on this. They're trying to get this out there as much as possible and bloggers and YouTubers have been reposting everything for a long time. |
basileus66 | 21 May 2017 8:47 a.m. PST |
I think you are right, Nathaniel. |
Centurio Prime | 22 May 2017 7:45 a.m. PST |
Copyright violation ??? What??? |
1905Adventure | 23 May 2017 7:25 a.m. PST |
My guess is that someone here on TMP with one or more of 1) Anti GW agenda 2) Personal beef with Judge Doug 3) emotional need to be the internet police Reported the post for copyright. There's simply no way GW would do it given how they've had articles on their site written by people who are sharing the info on their own websites, youtube channels and podcasts. This is some small minded self appointed copyright nanny at work here. |
Bob Runnicles | 23 May 2017 9:35 a.m. PST |
That's ridiculous. Free Judge Doug! |
Judge Doug | 24 May 2017 7:39 a.m. PST |
Hey everybody, I'm back! And no, it wasn't a Cease & Desist issued by Games Workshop! Nor was it really an issue about Copyright infringement at all, as the text was copied and attributed properly. It was a violation of TMP's "Copyright rule". I had a discussion with Bill, and it turns out, it's because he attempts to assert ownership over everything posted by every member of TMP – note that every page has a "©1994-2017 Bill Armintrout" on it. This would produce conflict if GW noticed that Bill was trying to copyright GW's own text! So the Copyright Rule is "Bill asserts ownership over everything you post, so if you post something that someone else already owns, it could get Bill into trouble." Don't want to venture off-topic, but since ya'll were upset that I got "dawghoused", now you know the reason! |
Thomas Whitten | 24 May 2017 7:48 a.m. PST |
I was more upset with the lack of even-handedness than anything else. |
emckinney | 24 May 2017 9:32 a.m. PST |
Yeah, Tango01 clearly stays in the fair use provision by posting enough of an excerpt to catch your interest, then linking to the rest. Including the whole article, including pictures, is way outside of the fair use provision. Fair use only allow quotes interspersed with discussion, otherwise, and can only quote a limited portion of the text. You can paraphrase almost all of the material, which is what Bell of Lost Souls is doing. |
The Beast Rampant | 24 May 2017 9:46 a.m. PST |
OK, then, JD, so now we know! Welcome back. |
HUBCommish | 25 May 2017 7:15 a.m. PST |
Was just contacted by Judge Doug by means-other-than-TMP to inform me that his TMP account has been locked. Looks like we lost another valuable contributor to the forums. That's a bummer, as he is pretty gung-ho about posting and commenting about new GW and Warlord releases across multiple forums, and is Warlord's official representative and "Sarge" for Central Virginia here in the US. He said to say adios to everyone, and that he can be found over on Dakka under "judgedoug," or on various RVA Facebook groups for Warhammer and Bolt Action as "Doug Craig" if you need to reach him. |
