Hey Everyone, I'm off to the UK for a few weeks for my Sister-in-law's wedding and I was wondering if there were any shows in the north or Scotland around this time? My wife's English and we live in Scotland and England when we were first married, but I was on a 10 hiatus from gaming then so I never took part in the hobby while there. The first part of my trip takes me to Aberdeen for 4 days, then to Anglesey for a week, then the Yorkshire moors for a few days. Any chances to hit a show in there? Large or small, just pop the location and date down and I'll start checking the itinerary to see if we're in the area. Or, if there is a comprehensive listing of UK shows, please point me in that direction and I'll start investigating. Though my UK geography only extends to cities really, towns and villages I'll have to google. Thanks for any help! |

You just miss our local show, Phalanx, on the 17th. Try here …. bhgs.org.uk/calendar.html …. for other events. Doesn't look like you have chosen the best time to come to the UK though. If you can get that far south, the Bovington one is usually thought a good one. If into 6mm the 'Joy of Six' in Sheffield is a small but excellent show. |

Alas Bovington and its wonderful Tankfest event don't quite meet the "north or Scotland" criteria; if they had I would have suggested the Naval Wargames Weekend in Gosport, July 8/9th… :) |

Doesn't look like you have chosen the best time to come to the UK though. Marry someone from a different county, then you get to go to the same place every vacation and you go when it fits in the schedule, rather than 'the best time to go' :) Thank for the advice gents! The sites linked to have been most welcome! If anyone from Aberdeen or York is reading this and there is a club night happening that you wouldn't mind an interested foreigner dropping in, post it up or PM me. |

Dear Fergal I'm not sure from your post what historical periods you are interested in? From Anglesey you can do several great castles and the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Museum at Caenarvon Castle has a Napoleonic Eagle. If visiting the North York Moors the Royal Armouries in Leeds are well worth a visit – though the Yorkshire Museum in York has a special Viking exhibition on right now and the Yorkshire Air Museum has a very good collection. If you are driving from Scotland to North Wales you might want to consider Carlisle Castle en route? |

Phoenix Lakeland Wargames Exhibition is on in Penrith on the 24th June, Not the biggest show in the UK but most certainly the one in the nicest surroundings! Really easy to get to as it's on Junction 40 of the M6 (where it crosses the A66. so excellent links North, South, East & West. There'll be 20+ Traders there, display games & a couple of tournaments too. (Magic the Gathering and Blood Bowl) as well as a bring and buy. The Rheged centre (where the show is based) also has it's own shops, cinema, kids play park, cafe, bar & free car park. Opens 10am – 4pm £3.00 GBP entry. facebook.com/PhoenixLWEUK |

@Wakefield Warmonger – I used to live there and I'm a history/politics buff so I'm set for castles and museums. I just wasn't a wargamer when I lived there so I'm looking for a wargames show to attend. @CJSutherland86 – Thanks, that's really the only option for me. I'll be in Aberdeen during that time, it's really a matter of "Can I convince my wife to get me there during the trip?" as it's doable, but not easy. I'll have to see if I can get there by train from Aberdeen. Thanks! Edit – Just checked, even though it's north in the UK, it's 4+ hours by car from Aberdeen. Next time we'll come when there are a few good shows on in succession. Thanks for any help. |
