Rarely see MARS figures painted up – has Paul (of PaulsBods fame) ever painted any ? If anyone could make them look good it might be him…..

Oooh, that's not nice.
Useful pack composition, poorly executed, with the seemingly-obligatory pose weirdness. The best that can be said is: not as bad as most MARS offerings.

My immediate reaction when I saw the post title was: What, the plastic figure company, or the barren, airless planet? Because both possibilities sounded equally unlikely. ;)

I have never been tempted by any of their sets. Where are they from?

That's a little unfair of me – their Zombie Pirate sets are quite nice. Of course anatomical oddities look less bad on Zombie Pirates….

Couple of picture reviews, from the SWA's website, of both sets to prove my point !

and the crews from the medieval gun crews (with head swops)make excellent orcs

The Burgundian Field Artillery has some potential, one or two of the figs (head swopping etc)and especially the guns. I´ll have to get hold of them and dab some paint on :-)
The one sitting, is he holding a jug of ale or a breech charge ?

The cover art suggests he's relaxing with a beer. Very laid back.

Missed the boxart. Maybe he needs the beer after hanging around with the misshaped crew

Those figures are very nice – and to be fair to MARS the artillery always look pretty good. I'm amazed at how good you've made the Polish gun crew look.

The Orcs – wonderful. Give yourself a pat on the back time.

I always feel that MARS are aiming for this look

What I find most interesting is how good Paul's paintwork makes these look. Just shows that perhaps, before we (I) criticise the raw figures, I should pain some up. Years ago we would have loved such a wide diversity of ranges, but nowadays I guess we are all a lot fussier. But Paul shows how s an error of our ways
