"The head of the Iranian armed forces warned Islamabad on Monday that Tehran would hit bases inside Pakistan if the government does not confront Sunni militants who carry out cross-border attacks.

Ten Iranian border guards were killed by militants last month. Iran said Jaish al Adl, a Sunni militant group, had shot the guards with long-range guns, fired from inside Pakistan.

The border area has long been plagued by unrest from both drug smuggling gangs and separatist militants…"

Of course this all pre-supposes that the Pakistanis will be bothered by Tehran hitting militants….

IIRC the Iranians came within a hairs'-breadth of invading Afghanistan to deal with drug smugglers and the Taliban just before we did.

No UN-recognized nation has launched a military invasion of Israel.

@Stu: Given how much of the US' trouble in Afghanistan could be laid at the feet of Pakistan's intelligence service(s?), I'd be interested to know how much of the so-called militants in Pakistan are actually not actually a rogue intel service/operation.

Lion – Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon are all UN recognised….

Though Israel didn't, I suspect, have nukes in 1973.
