(18mm) all my trumpeters, timbaliers, have horses with pistol holsters. Just the same horses as the other cavalry.
I sort of remember they were considered non combattants, or were they?
In that case we should have horses without weapons, should'nt we?
Or maybe none trust the rules.;)

Period artists certainly show them armed if we are talkning about roughly 1560-1660 period, also written accounts indicate they were armed. Example is trumpeter of Pappenheim who freed his dying master from captivity at Lutzen with force of arms when no other Imperial cavalry would rescue Pappenheim.

As you can see trumpeter is armed with both sword/rapier and pistols.

Kettledrummer is harder to say as they are rare in artwork and unlike trumpeter had no formal position in regiment or company at the time. Basicly they were extra musician paid for by officer out of their own pocket.
