GW is releasing a commemorative miniature to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The White Dwarf--and it's a space dwarf!

Could this be a clue about the future of WH40K?

Grombrindal, the White Dwarf himself, is a hero from a time beyond legend. Some say he is the living incarnation of Snorri Whitebeard himself, first High King of the Dwarfs; others that he was betrothed to the goddess Valaya, protector and bestower of magical resistance. Whatever his identity, for 40 years we've known him as the figurehead, protector and overlord of White Dwarf magazine.

Now he's ready to celebrate – and you're invited to the party with this resin miniature! Grombrindal is handsomely bedecked in a Space Marine costume complete with runes on the shoulders and a beer barrel built into the backpack, he stands atop a scenic base packed with detail – a ton of presents, a toy bolt gun and a massive cake, from which The Black Gobbo is bursting with mischief on his mind.

I've been disappointed way too many times to declare that the squats will be back based on one novelty commemorative figure.

I'll be happy as long as plastic sisters are released with 8th Ed.

No, it's a commemorative model.

They are not releasing squats with beer-powered power backpacks.

Were he not wearing obvious marine powered armor, I would consider the possibility. Sadly, this doesn't give me much hope.

Also it is not the first one they have had with a space theme remember the mechanicus one.

Squats coming back just in time for the merge of AOS & 40K (9th edition)

The new AoS dwarfs are close enough to squats to use in a "counts as" 40K army… not sure which codex you would use for them. I always fancied either Orks or Dark Eldar, myself (as two very different conceptualizations of Squats.)

Insomniac01 May 2017 11:40 a.m. PST

The newest 40K video states that new warriors have been designed that exceed the strongest of their space marine brothers…

… maybe they got Squats and 'upgraded' them to be better and stronger than the marines :)

(I am not being serious… but what a thing, eh? :) ).

No that is a Age of Sigmar Dwarf.

You can totally forget about Squats ever coming back.

Though if you really want them go out and buy some Forge Fathers from Mantic.

Insomniac01 May 2017 2:07 p.m. PST

That is a WH40k Dwarf… he is in power armour and has a bolt pistol (it's in its box).

There will never be Squats again.

There are plenty of proxy Squats out there (including Mantic)… or you can get plenty of originals from EBay.

The AoS Dwarfs are not sci-fi enough for 40k without conversion. They have flintlock pistol cannons…

Just to echo those above.
Some wishful souls said the same thing when WD came out with this figure…

… back in 2010 (maybe earlier?) but they were disappointed then just as they'll be disappointed now.
