Actually I should have said pre-view as we've not released these yet: link |
NickNorthStar | 30 Apr 2017 11:24 a.m. PST |
OH NO! I've put Dwaves instead of Dwarves!! What a doofus. LOL |
Battle Phlox | 30 Apr 2017 12:02 p.m. PST |
Glad to see miniatures with more of a classic feel to them. |

I so need an excuse to buy these … So good to see non cartoony fantasy figures |
Herkybird | 30 Apr 2017 12:53 p.m. PST |
THESE, and the Goblins, are what I have been looking for! At last, some beautifully sculpted Tolkeinic characters! |
Jamesonsafari | 30 Apr 2017 1:08 p.m. PST |
Good review thanks A picture against a scale would be nice I'd like to know if they aren't too much bigger than my Vendel dwarves |
YogiBearMinis | 30 Apr 2017 1:32 p.m. PST |
I am curious about this new fantasy race. Are Dwaves related to Dwarves, sort of like GW Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs? Or are they a different race altogether? Could. Not. Stop. Myself. |
Huscarle | 30 Apr 2017 1:40 p.m. PST |
Dwarves look good, but the goblins look absolutely superb |
Mithmee | 30 Apr 2017 4:54 p.m. PST |
Dwarves do not use bows. Crossbows yes Bows no |
Xintao | 30 Apr 2017 5:38 p.m. PST |
Mithmee, Tolkien thinks differently. |
Codsticker | 30 Apr 2017 6:28 p.m. PST |
Dwarves do not use bows. Well, since these are Dwaves there is no conflict… |
BigDan | 30 Apr 2017 7:45 p.m. PST |
Great looking figures Nick but like Mithmee said they need crossbows if you want to move in on GW. Im looking over all my plastic, crossbow armed, figures (GW and Fireforge)with the idea that I might be able to do some arm swaps. Can't wait to see the elves and goblins! |
David Johansen | 30 Apr 2017 9:57 p.m. PST |
Properly, there are no crossbows or plate armor in Tolkien. |
Herkybird | 30 Apr 2017 11:47 p.m. PST |
I, for one, am glad they have bows! Crossbows only Dwarf forces are a D+D and GW creation. In Tolkein they only ever have bows! Basically, he has them armed as Vikings. |
CATenWolde | 01 May 2017 1:54 a.m. PST |
Exactly – the world does not need more GW style fantasy figures, there are plenty already out there. These "Tolkien" style figures are great. |
Bashytubits | 01 May 2017 3:56 p.m. PST |
Do the "Dwave" wave! Do Dwaves have staves? |
CATenWolde | 02 May 2017 1:04 a.m. PST |
Don't be a knave – Dwave staves were all the rave but weren't enough to save the day. |
willlucv | 02 May 2017 2:36 a.m. PST |
The Dwarves/Dwaves look great. But I'd definitely be in for the Lizard/snake men and goblins, they're what I've been waiting for stylistically speaking. |

Nice sculpts, but I'd replace the oversized axe and spear. |

(face slam into wall) Is it possible to have ONE new product review that doesn't turn into, "let's talk negatively about GW"? I really don't think that Northstar miniatures is thinking one way or the other what GW has armed its dwarves with over the past thirty years of miniatures production! Sheesh people. There are literally hundreds of fantasy miniature lines available, GW is simply one of them. And GW isn't the only company arming dwarves with crossbows for crying out loud. Ral Partha and Grenadier have been arming dwarves with crossbows for at least as long as GW has, possibly even before GW did. Calling it some kind of co-invention conspired by D & D and GW is quite disingenuous. Nor will Northstar be the first to arm dwarves with bows! These look like a really cool line of new fantasy dwarves. I don't see why it has to be compared with GW's dwarves. And as was said above in response to the comment that dwarves should not have bows – I guess someone forgot to tell Tolkien back in 1938 that dwarves weren't supposed to have them. |

REALLY looking forward to these, I definitely see an army in my future. These are in my favorite fantasy style and something I never thought I'd see in plastic! And yes, Dwarves absolutely do use bows, all the way back to the 'source' material that old Oxford professor stumbled across. :) -Will |

I appreciate the picture next to a LotR Moria Goblin, but would like to see next to some LotR dwarves. Those are my favorite. While I'd love to see elves in this style, no way I'll be replacing / repainting my LotR elves, even to get more of a straight sword/shield combo with mail. If I was willing to do that, I'd have bought a bunch from Thunderbolt Mountain. But I'm looking forward to seeing them. andy |

Why do people keep comparing things to GW figures? GW only "make the best miniatures in the world" and have been telling us so for years (at least thats the view I get from them, and I'm sure I saw it written somewhere or other). Thus it is only logical to use them as the benchmark to compare everything else to. (I don't think they make the best, at least not any more, but some think they still do) Dwarves look good. Always good to see a new take on things. |
Andy Skinner | 04 May 2017 10:19 a.m. PST |
Some of us compare to what we have, to see if they match. I think it is a "could I or someone like me use them?" question. andy |

I don't need to join in the 'Dwarves don't use bows' debate do I? Perhaps just to say two things, 1) we are not making Warhammer figures and 2) this isn't the one and only Dwarf set we'll ever make. |
