…to storm future beaches.

"The U.S. Marines could deploy a host of futuristic military technology to "storm the beaches."

Included in the new technology are machine-gun toting robots that charge up the beaches as advance assault, as well as speedboats that instantly transformed into small stealthy submarines diving beneath the surface to avoid detection.

For the past two weeks, the Navy and Marine Corps have been quietly testing about 50 new fascinating technologies out at Camp Pendleton, at the Ship-to-Shore Maneuver Exploration and Experimentation Advanced Naval Technology Exercise 2017, in California…"

That does not look particularly robust.

More robust than an infantry soldier, I suspect, and with a .50 it packs a bit more firepower, too!

Very true but also less intelligent and able to find cover. You can hack a solider either.

How intelligent does a small, remote-controlled .50 Cal gun tractor need to be when it's deployed as first wave/advance assault? They're support. A supplement not a substitute.

Send 'em in droves, the BMGs providing suppressing fire while the "more intelligent/less robust" infantry take advantage of the shock to follow up and exploit any openings and opportunities.

Hacking in that kind of scenario seems about as likely than defenders using chemical or biological agent to disable human infantry.

Great idea… Until it throws a track or gets stuck in a hole or rolls over on its back… And its one more thing that needs maintenance time. The Marines so love their idiotic and impractical toys…

From everything I've heard, the remotes for the EOD crews are simple, sturdy, and reliable. This isn't a very sophisticated new species. Of course they will need maintenance like other vehicles and equipment.

There's always some percentage of injured, impaired infantry. Not shocked some portion of gun tractors would throw tracks or get stuck. I'd rather the casualty be a drone than human.
