Greetings, starship fans! Apologies for the lack of updates from me of late; some medical procedures and other things have briefly impeded my productivity.

But now, as the first wave of my FASA Trek-inspired designs near production (oh yes!) I have made some good progress on wave two. And to prove it, I give you the Klingon L-9 Sabre class Frigate!

This is one of my favourites of the FASA Klingon designs, armed with enough hurt to make a heavy cruiser sweat. And it looks mean, too!

Old FASA fans will notice I've changed the shape and size of the command pod. The original was just a hexagon, and a proportionally undersized one at that! I've given the command crew a bit more leg room with this re-design, but kept elements of the original.

This is supposed to be the E/F model, by the way, with Fwd/Aft torps. I know the B model is more numerous, but I felt the torpedo-equipped versions would have more appeal to players who want a new Klingon ship to field outside of the FASA universe.

I hope you all like her. Hopefully, 'Drew will have some very good news about the availability of the wave one ships in a week or two; most of the wave one models have been printed, and have moved on to being prepped as masters for moulding. (But if that estimate proves off, don't blame him! My fault!)

That looks really great! Has Studio Bergstrom released any of your fantastic work yet? I don't want to miss it!

LoudNinjaGames28 Apr 2017 7:55 a.m. PST

Wow, this one really scores high for updating with quality, style and loyalty to the original concept.

Great work,

The first wave is printed and in process now, hopefully in the next few weeks they will be available.

Nice work again! How big is she compared to the D7?

Good point, Will! Scaled to be compatible for the Starline 2500 range, (1/3125) the L9 is 70mm long, compared to the D10 which is 90mm.

(Remember, 'Drew will also be releasing these designs in 1/3788, which is compatible with earlier SFB and FASA miniatures.)

Although classified as a 'Frigate' in the FASA game, Frigates are among the most combat-capable vessels, but without the multirole capabilities of cruisers. Based on that, I decided to make the L9 a biggish beastie, without actually becoming cruiser-sized.

Well the reality is the FASA frigate are more like a cruiser, some think FASA was using the same means of classifying them as the US navy was then. When most other navies frigates were smaller than destroyers.

But it's sad when FASA frigates can often out gun the cruisers, which often many of them can. Chandley class frigate is probably the most popular the Federation has.

Although classified as a 'Frigate' in the FASA game,…

I recall JWS apologizing for calling the largest B5 human ships 'destroyers.' Actually wasn't the first time in sf that reversal of naval nomenclature happened, and I've no issues.

And, to tell the truth, frigates WERE cruisers in age of sail, and are getting bigger all the modern time.

MM you out did yourself on the L9. it was my favorite ship in the fasa line. never lost with it. can't wait to get my hands on it.

MacrossMartin15 May 2017 6:55 p.m. PST

Thank you Ravenstar, and to everyone else who's commented on my interpretation of the L9.

I was worried about this one; the command pod's proportions wouldn't cooperate when I started, and I had to leave it alone, come back, try again, leave it again, come back… So, it's a real relief that comments to date have been overwhelmingly positive.

Federation medium cruiser (TOS Miranda predecessor) next, then, possibly something bigger for the Klingons…

LoudNinjaGames20 May 2017 6:58 a.m. PST

Please keep up the good work on the Klingons. There is such disproportionate attention given to Federation designs, it's nice to see some quality work being done for their primary adversary.

Yeah, well I HATE it!

Okay, not at all, but if someone doesn't say it, you'll still be waiting for that drop of the other shoe thing. ;->=

Here for you, man.

I have this file and some others of Martin's ready for prototyping, but I have little capital to pay for the 3D prints right now. In order to expedite these new designs I need to raise the funds to get them done. Many of you already know that sales are down across this industry, and it is very rare that I can afford to lower my prices any more than they already are, sadly. I am asking for folks now to order or to spread the word about purchasing minis now in order to raise funds to print these new ships. I have just listed new Renegade Alliance ships in my catalog, if anyone needs an incentive. Thanks for everyone's support!

I have started to list MacrossMartin's new Trek-inspired ships here:

The next wave is being readied for 3D printing, and more are being worked on to be added to the catalog soon!

stumer21 Oct 2017 1:25 p.m. PST

Sorry, I'm still waiting for the files from Martin who needs to get through a commission before he can revise them to print in the smaller scale properly,

Eclipsing Binaries26 Oct 2017 1:54 p.m. PST
