As we've had one duff review, can anyone tell us the truth about these rules? I'd be interested to know how they play.

And, how much of Pickett's Charge carries over to General d'Armee?

I have a sneaking suspicion that PC was a striped down version of GA.. it's woken me up at night. : )

as for PC: i'll give my 2 cents. overall a good game. my take away messages:

designed mainly for 2 player. I mean it can do more but I think 2 is where it's at.
you need about 60 stands / bases per side minimum.
fun command and control system
fun system of allocating resources and making decisions other than 'move my unit over there.'
plays well in an evening; not fast play but not too slow either.
there is some vagueness in the rules, at least I found charge combat like that; where it reads straight forward but when we played we had a lot of "now what about this.." moments.
needs a bunch of status markers.

"And, how much of Pickett's Charge carries over to General d'Armee?"

I chatted to the Loughton Strike Force guys at Salute, and looked at the playsheets. The mechanisms are similar.

Staff Officers are called ADC's. However there is period chrome to give it a Napoleonic flavour plus more comprehensive rules for differing cavalry types and roles. Lots of other little bits and pieces accounting for different Nations, should you want to use National Characteristics.

Here's an excellent account of a first game of Pickett's Charge which, as well as being superbly pretty, gives an honest appraisal of the systems therein.
